Position Summary:
This role as a Senior Principal Engineer for Manufacturing Systems is located in San Diego, CA, within the Operations organization, reporting to the head of the Division Operations Systems Engineering department.

The primary focus of this organization is to expedite the affordable maturation of product lines and programs by providing a technical, systems-oriented Operations perspective throughout the capture, product development, and execution phases.

This position requires onsite presence in San Diego to achieve strategic goals and to further distinguish our campuses from competitors while advancing our Operations Systems Engineering mission.

Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Support Product Development and Design
  • Develop Manufacturing strategies and assist in product development
  • Collaborate with the Engineering/design teams to enhance manufacturability
  • Conduct cost trade analyses and assessments for make/buy decisions
  • Provide Manufacturing Readiness Assessment support
  • Identify risks and formulate mitigation strategies
  • Recommend design enhancements necessary for producing advanced microelectronics
  • Assess Operations Investment Requirements
  • Coordinate with leadership on capital requirements for new initiatives
  • Collaborate with Industrial Engineering for new capital investments
  • Support Business Development Efforts
  • Assist management in developing teaming and cost strategies
  • Shape Operations-related requirements in proposals
  • Validate capabilities for sourcing, production, testing, inspection, delivery, and maintenance of products
  • Identify Operations-related risks and opportunities, along with management strategies
  • Drive cultural change to promote streamlined early engagement

Basic Qualifications:
This position necessitates a BS degree in a STEM field or a related technical discipline, accompanied by a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or an MS degree with 7 years of experience; or a PhD with 4 years of experience.

Proficiency in MS Office applications is required.

An active DoD Secret Security Clearance is mandatory (U.S. Citizenship is required).

Experience in leading or managing projects is essential.

Extensive experience in Systems Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering is required.

Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Systems Engineering is highly advantageous.

Exceptional communication skills are necessary to engage with all organizational levels, including presenting to senior leadership.

Experience in developing cost models using industry-standard estimation tools is a significant plus.

Familiarity with IPC Class 3 electronics design and manufacturing, design qualification, reliability analyses, and knowledge of microelectronics technology and materials is preferred.

Experience in reviewing technical documentation and preparing contract modifications is beneficial.

Knowledge of requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS) and experience with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies are advantageous.

Familiarity with J-STD, MIL-STD, and MIL-HBK requirements is also beneficial.

Compensation:
The salary range for this position is $133,000 - $199,600. This range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the role's scope and responsibilities, as well as the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.

Employees may qualify for discretionary bonuses in addition to base pay, with annual bonuses designed to reward individual contributions and share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director roles may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
