Position Overview

The Electrical Operations Supervisor will oversee and guarantee the safe and precise installation, upkeep, diagnostics, and repair of equipment and instrumentation associated with the unloading, loading, transfer, and storage of cargo. This includes managing conveying systems, AC and DC motors, PLCs, IO modules, VFDs, and DC Drives, along with the relevant wiring and power supplies for various equipment such as ship loaders, stacker/reclaimers, continuous barge unloaders, and bucket cranes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the technical authority for a team of maintenance electricians in areas including:
  • Power distribution systems (13.8kv, 4160v, 480v, 120v, and low voltage)
  • Troubleshooting of discrete and analog control circuits
  • Maintenance and diagnostics of VFD and DC drive systems
  • Ensuring the proper functioning of all automated machinery, including barge unloaders and conveyors
  • Implementing wiring methods for branch circuits such as lighting and receptacles
  • Participate in Maintenance and Operations meetings to discuss the status of current and upcoming electrical projects and repairs
  • Oversee electrical work orders and preventive maintenance tasks within the CMMS program, including the creation, editing, issuance, and closure of work orders
  • Supervise and conduct preventive maintenance on all terminal equipment
  • Review routine preventive maintenance tasks for accuracy and implement improvements as needed
  • Provide on-call and/or remote assistance to Electricians and Operations during unexpected downtimes
  • Diagnose and repair various equipment used for cargo transfer
  • Supply blueprints, wiring diagrams, manuals, or verbal instructions to electricians and verify their correctness
  • Ensure all electrical tasks are performed safely and promptly, adhering to company and regulatory standards
  • Safely operate and/or supervise the operation of various equipment related to cargo transfer for testing purposes
  • Conduct audits on all equipment inspections and report findings in line with policies and procedures
  • Engage in and successfully complete required training and assessments
  • Identify, report, and rectify safety and environmental issues
  • Perform additional terminal functions as directed by management.
Essential Qualifications and Skills:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of prior experience in industrial electrical supervision is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of industrial electrical experience.
  • Master Electrician-level expertise in troubleshooting industrial electronic controls, including VFDs, DC drives, PLCs, HMIs, and associated wiring.
  • Comprehensive understanding and application of Ohm's Law.
  • Experience with Emerson (formerly GE) RX3i controllers and Machine Edition software is preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC).
  • Support Operations through the installation, programming, start-up, and maintenance of electrical, automation, and process control systems.
  • Responsible for the installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical and automation systems to enhance plant operation and reduce overall operating costs.
  • Support various facility systems, including Emerson PLCs, Control Techniques VFDs and DC Drives, and bulk cargo belts.
