Position Overview:

The Terminal Operations Supervisor will manage multiple operational teams at Riverway Co's terminal. These teams are primarily responsible for the safe unloading of barges and the efficient loading of ocean-going vessels. All operations must comply with the established terminal operating procedures and environmental/safety regulations. Riverway Co operates on a 24/7 rotating shift basis, with each shift led by a team leader and dispatcher reporting directly to the Terminal Operations Supervisor. This role entails planning and executing all operational functions at the terminal, requiring close collaboration with various departments and terminal management. Additionally, the position involves weekly financial forecasting to effectively oversee operational costs. This is an excellent opportunity for career growth in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all operational aspects at the terminal.
  • Ensure compliance with operational, safety, security, environmental, and business standards.
  • Maintain and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Supervise four Team Leaders, each managing a team of 14 personnel on a rotating shift schedule.
  • Engage with operational teams to promote safety and performance goals.
  • Monitor and analyze operational performance metrics.
  • Implement necessary changes to improve operations.
  • Generate and distribute daily shift work orders for the Operations Department.
  • Manage mobile equipment allocation in line with maintenance schedules and operational requirements.
  • Facilitate change processes with direct reports and relevant managers.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for incidents and communicate findings effectively.
  • Collaborate with the Logistics Manager to optimize product placement and vessel loading schedules.
  • Oversee hiring and termination processes in conjunction with HR.
  • Manage operational contractors and their schedules when present on-site.
  • Ensure accurate time entry and manage timekeeping for the Operations Department.
  • Administer the annual and weekly expense forecasting for the operations team.
  • Align dispatchers with operational schedules for the efficient movement of barges and vessels.
  • Develop and manage training schedules for operational staff.
  • Ensure compliance with ESV equipment verification for all operational personnel.
  • Establish operational goals and objectives for terminal activities.
  • Ensure consistent application of human resource policies.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) at the terminal.
  • Create and update operational job aids as necessary.
  • Execute other directives as assigned by terminal management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in marine terminal or mining management (experience in coal and petcoke is advantageous).
  • At least 5 years of experience in managing safety programs.
  • Ability to address issues promptly and effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Self-motivated individual with strong leadership, communication, analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a proven ability to create and implement efficient systems.
  • Willingness to engage in hands-on training, which may involve physical tasks.
  • Adaptable team player with a proactive mindset.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a TWIC required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in various weather conditions and around heavy machinery.
  • Willingness to work shifts that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must meet fit-for-duty requirements upon job offer, including a pre-employment physical and drug test.
