DEPARTMENT: Research & Analysis

REPORTS TO: Director of Research & Digital Programming

COMPENSATION: $65,000 - $70,000

ROLE SUMMARY:

The Senior Editor for Research & Analysis will play a pivotal role in overseeing external studies and specialized market evaluations. This position involves collaborating closely with the department director to manage contributions from various writers, overseeing content budgets informed by team insights, and providing critical first edits to materials prepared for The Space Report. Additionally, the senior editor will generate supplementary content for press releases, social media communications, and executive summaries. A strong background in database management and data-driven analysis is essential.

The Senior Editor will ensure the production of high-quality reports, papers, and studies that address relevant and emerging topics within the space sector. This includes both digital and print content that complies with AP style guidelines. The role necessitates close collaboration with the department director to oversee studies and specialized market evaluations, manage writer contributions, and support the team through essential editing and content generation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with the Research & Analysis team to strategize, manage, and edit content for The Space Report, ensuring adherence to AP style and maintaining exceptional accuracy.
  • Partner with the department director to oversee analysis and studies focusing on critical issues such as workforce development and market dynamics within the industry.
  • Schedule and provide initial edits for articles submitted by contributing writers.
  • Edit associated graphics, coordinate media resources, and assist in managing production requirements for publications.
  • Contribute to the development of new datasets and perform analysis based on collected data.
  • Act as a key contributor in utilizing AI to enhance data analysis and related content.
  • Support other Space Foundation events as directed, including the annual Space Symposium.
  • Undertake additional duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BA/BS degree in journalism, communications, data science, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience as a content or line editor in a collaborative environment, with expertise in managing content budgets.
  • Proficiency in line editing and strict adherence to AP style guidelines.
  • Demonstrated experience in database management and data analysis.
  • Experience in corporate communications and conducting market surveys.
  • Familiarity with the space industry is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively within a team and interact appropriately with various stakeholders.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position typically involves working indoors with a designated workspace. Necessary office equipment and supplies will be provided. Occasional outdoor work may be required, subject to prevailing weather conditions. There may also be travel involved for Foundation-related business.

JOB STATUS:

  1. FLSA Classification: This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not eligible for overtime pay.
  1. Full- or Part-Time: This is a full-time position requiring a commitment of 40+ hours per week.
  1. Work Location: The primary work site is designated by the organization, with eligibility for a hybrid work policy.
  1. Regular Schedule: Standard business days are Monday through Friday, with typical hours from 8 A.M. to 5 P.M.
