Position Overview:

At Norfolk Crush, we operate a facility dedicated to the daily processing of 110,000 bushels of soybeans into various products including soybean oil, soybean meal, and soy hull pellets. The Lead Electrical Technician plays a crucial role in performing electrical repairs, troubleshooting, and installations as directed by the maintenance leadership team. This position does not involve direct supervision but requires collaboration with an automation technician and another electrician to accomplish assigned tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute daily electrical work orders as assigned by the maintenance leadership team.
  • Oversee electrical schematics and coordinate necessary updates with external engineering services.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and repairs on instrumentation.
  • Actively engage in the continuous improvement initiatives of the facility.
  • Report any electrical issues to plant leadership promptly.
  • Collaborate closely with maintenance leadership to ensure the proper upkeep of electrical systems.
  • Comply with operational policies and procedures while promoting safety initiatives aimed at achieving zero incidents.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements relevant to the operation.

Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment, particularly in feed, food, or chemical processing.
  • Availability for on-call duties, typically every other week, including work during scheduled shutdowns.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills across various levels and departments.
  • A collaborative mindset with a willingness to contribute to team efforts across different shifts.
  • Proficient in quality specifications with strong data gathering and identification skills.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and readiness to assist the maintenance department as needed.
  • Good computer proficiency is essential.
  • A proactive approach to supporting the plant's operational needs beyond the job description.

  • Technical Expertise: Experience in bioprocessing or related industrial production, including familiarity with large-scale production equipment, automation, troubleshooting, and vendor oversight.
  • Team Development: Employ effective methods and interpersonal skills to foster a cohesive team environment, facilitating the achievement of team objectives.
  • Organizational Skills: Develop action plans to ensure efficient completion of tasks, prioritizing requirements and leveraging available resources.
  • Decision-Making: Analyze issues and opportunities, utilizing data to inform decisions and develop effective solutions.
  • Innovation: Generate creative solutions to work-related challenges, exploring novel approaches to problem-solving.

Working Conditions:

  • Physical ability to bend, squat, climb, sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach overhead, and perform fine motor tasks.
  • Occasional kneeling may be required.
  • Capability to lift and carry loads ranging from light to heavy, up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work 12-hour shifts, with a rotating schedule.
