Community Engagement Coordinator

Melbourne, Florida, United States Schools (Government) Full time

Position Overview

The Community Hubs initiative operates within educational institutions, partnering with support organizations to connect with diverse and underprivileged communities throughout Australia.

Each Hub is unique yet shares a unified mission of fostering social unity in Australian neighborhoods by engaging culturally isolated families, cultivating local relationships, and providing both formal and informal skills development. The focus is on assisting families in accessing early childhood opportunities, thereby enhancing child development, school readiness, and overall settlement outcomes. Hubs prioritize collaborations that empower existing services to implement their initiatives within the Hub environment.

Programming is customized for each Hub based on consultations with families and the backing of a national network.

Key Responsibilities

Establishing strong home/school partnerships is a fundamental aspect of school culture. This is achieved through active parental involvement in various forums, including School Council, classroom support, fundraising, informational sessions, and community-wide events.

The Community Hub will enhance these partnerships and forge stronger connections with the wider school community. As the Community Hub Coordinator, your responsibilities will include:

  • Creating an inviting atmosphere that encourages parents and their children to participate actively in Hub activities.
  • Fostering relationships with parents and the local community to help them identify their strengths, aspirations, and needs.
  • Collaborating with local service providers to plan activities that align with program outcomes, such as establishing English language classes and playgroups, informed by community consultations.
  • Empowering families with knowledge about child development, parenting, and settlement support through information sessions and skill-building programs at the Hub.
  • Building robust relationships within the school to enhance family engagement in early years and school readiness initiatives, as well as supporting the school in addressing family needs.
  • Advocating for family needs to local services and collaborating with these organizations to tailor programs and referrals delivered from the school.
  • Participating in Hub leaders' meetings and professional development opportunities within the local government area.
  • Preparing regular reports and sharing insights and case studies with your support agency and Community Hubs Australia.
  • Engaging in program evaluations and supporting assessment processes.
