Position Overview
The Family Support Coordinator plays a crucial role within a newly established Family Support Service operating in correctional facilities. This position is dedicated to aiding female inmates and their families in nurturing or re-establishing familial connections. Adopting a comprehensive family-centric approach, the Family Support Coordinator will evaluate, plan, and facilitate family engagement strategies and referrals for women and their relatives. This will involve collaboration with various governmental entities, including the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing (DFFH) Child Protection, and developing methods to assist women in reintegrating into their family units and the broader community.
The Family Support Coordinator will also collaborate closely with prison personnel and external service providers to ensure that initiatives supporting women and their families are executed in a cohesive, integrated, and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Supporting women in re-establishing and/or enhancing their relationships with children and other family members during their incarceration. Serving as a liaison with agencies such as DFFH Child Protection, particularly when women express a desire to maintain or re-establish contact with children in out-of-home care. Coordinating and engaging women in goal-setting throughout their incarceration to promote and facilitate family engagement during all forms of communication.Candidate Profile
To excel in this position, you will possess:
A solid understanding of the complexities faced by women in custody, including issues related to transition and reintegration. Experience working with women and their families. Proficiency in engaging clients who may be difficult to reach. The ability to operate effectively within a correctional environment. Experience in delivering parenting programs (preferred).Application Process
