Job Overview

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is committed to establishing a cutting-edge cybersecurity framework aimed at safeguarding the vital transit infrastructure that supports our nation's capital. The Senior Cybersecurity Metrics Specialist plays a crucial role in the comprehensive assessment and performance evaluation of cybersecurity initiatives within the organization. This position reports directly to the Governance, Risk, and Compliance Manager and is tasked with preparing and delivering governance and compliance management reports, key performance indicators (KPIs), and scorecards to senior leadership, including the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Cybersecurity Metrics Specialist will:

  • Develop and enhance enterprise cybersecurity scorecards that provide a transparent overview of the organization's security posture, including system-level health, operational effectiveness, and employee training outcomes.
  • Utilize industry best practices from recognized standards such as NIST and CIS to inform the WMATA scorecarding framework.
  • Conduct thorough analyses of threat intelligence from diverse sources to identify potential vulnerabilities and ensure timely mitigation.
  • Support the creation of dashboards that inform executive management about the security status of the organization.
  • Oversee the development of cyber threat indicators and maintain awareness of the dynamic cybersecurity landscape.
  • Facilitate the collection, processing, and dissemination of cyber threat assessments to enhance the organization's defensive posture.
  • Engage in strategic assessments of operational effectiveness in response to cyber events, ensuring that systems perform as intended.
  • Collaborate with various teams to ensure a cohesive approach to incident response and threat mitigation.
  • Analyze defensive measures and coordinate responses to cybersecurity incidents, ensuring a swift and effective reaction to threats.
  • Contribute to the development of intelligence products that inform decision-making and enhance the organization's cybersecurity strategy.

Qualifications

Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Experience:
  • A minimum of four years of experience in cybersecurity roles, including positions such as cybersecurity officer, information systems security officer, or similar.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field.

Work Environment

This position offers a hybrid work arrangement, allowing for a blend of remote and in-office work in accordance with the Authority's telework policy.
