SUMMARY OF ROLE:
The Substitute Teacher plays a vital role in fostering a nurturing and educational environment for children. This position is essential in maintaining the health and safety of students while supporting their developmental needs. The educator collaborates with children, parents, and team members to ensure a holistic approach to child development.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Welcome children and their guardians upon arrival, ensuring a friendly atmosphere.
- Maintain a safe and healthy learning environment.
- Assist in the creation and execution of daily instructional plans alongside team members and parents.
- Stay informed about current educational research and integrate beneficial practices into the program.
- Manage necessary documentation and evaluations related to student progress.
- Collaborate closely with the Education Coordinator and other staff members.
- Encourage parental involvement in classroom activities and follow-up initiatives.
- Conduct regular discussions with parents regarding the development of each child.
- Perform home visits and facilitate parent conferences as needed.
- Lead fire drills and emergency preparedness training.
- Ensure the safety and security of the educational environment during operational hours.
- Oversee the upkeep and cleanliness of classroom materials and equipment.
- Work in partnership with senior teachers to share classroom responsibilities.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and community events as required.
- Prepare educational materials to support daily activities and classroom objectives.
- Maintain ongoing observation records and documentation for each child, including attendance and progress reports.
- Engage parents in planning for continuity of learning at home.
- Provide supervision and guidance to children throughout their activities.
- Organize and lead field trips with input from parents and staff.
- Request necessary supplies and materials for classroom use.
- Consult with specialists to address the needs of individual children.
- Collaborate with other educational staff to enhance program effectiveness.
- Complete additional tasks as assigned by the organization to support children and families.
- Prepare and submit necessary referral documentation for children.
- Exemplify a positive work ethic for both parents and colleagues.
- Uphold confidentiality in all matters related to children and families.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. Reasonable accommodations will be provided for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A High School Diploma or GED is required. Previous experience in a Head Start program is preferred. Candidates should possess developing computer skills and a willingness to work with children and families from diverse backgrounds.
