Job Overview:
The Quality Control Specialist is tasked with executing quality assurance responsibilities to enhance operational effectiveness.

This role is pivotal in upholding quality standards and ensuring product integrity through diligent monitoring of sanitation protocols and conducting thorough product evaluations.

The Quality Control Specialist collaborates closely with the Quality Assurance Supervisor for guidance, interpretation, and assessment. They play a crucial role in upholding Balchem's quality and safety benchmarks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Production Manager to oversee and document the safety and quality of both raw materials and finished goods. Report any discrepancies in service quality that may pose a potential risk.
  • Provide necessary documentation and control samples to shift leaders and operators as required for production.
  • Assist in monitoring sanitation practices and support research and development initiatives.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing throughout the production process, including moisture, sensory, and granulation assessments. Address all quality-related issues.
  • Ensure the timeliness and thoroughness of quality assurance procedures and documentation, including equipment cleanouts, Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) tasks, and Critical Control Point/Control Point (CCP/CP) protocols.
  • Guarantee that all documentation is completed accurately and promptly, in compliance with company standards.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures, encompassing personnel, safety, and equipment maintenance.
  • Attain proficiency in production and safety protocols, including accident reporting, bloodborne pathogens, confined spaces, emergency procedures, equipment operation and maintenance, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
  • Manage conflicts professionally and contribute to fostering a positive team environment.
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, or Food Science is preferred.
  • Two to four years of experience in a production environment focused on quality control is highly desirable.
  • Strong motivation, organizational, time management, documentation, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
  • A strong work ethic, reliability, and trustworthiness.
  • Capability to apply common sense and skills in fulfilling responsibilities and operating equipment in line with company production, personnel, and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in reading and understanding instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to compose correspondence and effectively present information in one-on-one and small group settings to customers, clients, and colleagues.
  • Skilled in conflict resolution in a professional context.
  • Ability to contribute positively to team dynamics.
  • Capacity to lift up to 25 lbs. and occasionally more, utilizing safe lifting techniques and equipment.
  • Specific vision capabilities required to perform essential job functions, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Environment:

  • Compliance with personal protective equipment policies and procedures is mandatory.
  • Regular exposure to wet or humid conditions.
  • Continuous work near moving mechanical components.
  • Occasional work in elevated or precarious locations, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic substances, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme cold (non-weather related).
  • Regular exposure to high temperatures (non-weather related).

  • Majority of work performed on feet, with occasional sitting.
