Position Overview

Turner & Townsend is currently looking for a Cost Control Specialist to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will work on a diverse portfolio of projects, including High-Tech, Manufacturing, Data Centers, and Commercial Real Estate, collaborating with our key global clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Estimate and negotiate change orders throughout the construction lifecycle.
  • Provide comprehensive cost planning, including the development and presentation of the final cost plan.
  • Collaborate with the design services team and general contractor to create accurate cost estimates.
  • Reconcile changes and assist the general contractor in ensuring data accuracy.
  • Engage with the general contractor and owner project manager to gather status updates for cost estimate revisions.
  • Prepare detailed written feedback on the general contractor's submissions, including executive summaries.
  • Coordinate all sources of cost information for discussions with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Drive engineering priorities based on cost implications.
  • Work independently to resolve scheduling challenges.
  • Conduct cost checks and valuations on larger projects, ensuring timely and accurate processes.
  • Participate in managing post-contract cost variances and change control processes.
  • Oversee cost impact management and maintain commitment tracking logs.
  • Prepare funding data presentations and facilitate value engineering sessions with stakeholders.
Pre-Contract Responsibilities:
  • Develop cost plans and estimates during the design phase, providing updates at key milestones.
  • Offer commercial insights during design optioneering and value engineering exercises.
  • Review contractor and subcontractor pricing, leading negotiations to secure fair contract prices.
Post-Contract Responsibilities:
  • Conduct quantity surveying, cost control, and change management throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure effective management of post-contract cost variances and change control processes.
  • Oversee cost auditing and valuation, ensuring a robust validation process is in place.
  • Produce monthly cost reports for client presentations.
  • Facilitate timely negotiations and agreements on final accounts.
  • Compile as-built cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in a construction cost management role.
  • Degree in construction management, cost management, quantity surveying, engineering, or a related field.
  • Full lifecycle cost management experience in commercial real estate construction projects.
  • RICS accreditation or progress towards it is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Experience with large-scale commercial real estate or data center projects.
  • Proven ability to lead cost management on medium to large construction projects of varying complexity.
  • Strong understanding of construction industry technical matters, including procurement routes, value management, and value engineering.
