Job Summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a highly skilled Psychologist Program Manager to lead our Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and evaluation of our comprehensive clinical care programs for Veterans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, physicians, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality clinical care to Veterans.
  • Develop and implement operational policies and procedures for the program, ensuring compliance with VA regulations and standards.
  • Conduct ongoing program evaluation and data-driven quality improvement projects to monitor the effectiveness of clinical operations.
  • Organize and lead team meetings to facilitate case disposition, care management, and effective delivery of clinical interventions.
  • Monitor and distribute provider-specific workload reports to team leaders and ensure provider adherence to workload standards.
  • Plan work to be accomplished by the program, including establishing priorities, timelines for completion, and necessary adjustments.
  • Ensure timely access to residential care, in accordance with local and national policies.
  • Initiate and maintain liaisons with associated VA healthcare programs to effectively coordinate services.
  • Monitor compliance of staff with VA performance measures and effectively shape provider practice patterns to improve standing on performance measures.
  • Provide clinical supervision to assigned staff regarding adherence to WCHCS clinical and legal standards and policies, documentation of electronic health record procedures, and the clinical management of difficult, complex, and dangerous patients.
  • Provide leadership in hiring of new staff members for the program, including constructing job announcements, preparing functional statements, rating applications, interviewing, and selecting final job candidates.
  • Participate in the selection of newly hired personnel.
  • Resolve conflicts among staff and adjudicate complaints and problems of employees in a timely and effective manner.
  • Assume responsibility for taking appropriate disciplinary actions for employees with performance problems in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensure that appropriate coverage is arranged for patient care responsibilities when staff members are on leave.
  • Approve leave for employees directly under their supervision.
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA).
  • At least three years of experience as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-13 grade level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in areas such as organizational management, clinical practice, and staff supervision.
Preferred Qualifications
  • VA experience preferred.
Working Conditions

The work of the psychologist is largely office-based and in a sedentary setting. No manual labor is required above ordinary situations. Incumbent must be capable of participating in emergency drills and evacuations. Incumbent must be capable of using a computer given that all clinical charting is electronic.
