General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT) provides comprehensive IT services in support of mission-critical operations throughout the US Southern Command's (SOUTHCOM) Area of Responsibility (AOR), which includes Central America, South America, and select Caribbean nations.

SOUTHCOM is headquartered in Doral, FL.


GDIT SOUTHCOM Cyber Information Technology Enterprise Services (SCITES) is dedicated to delivering and operationalizing IT services for all US SOUTHCOM constructed networks.

These networks span the entire US SOUTHCOM Area of Responsibility (AOR).

Work performed under this Task Order directly contributes to providing US SOUTHCOM with a secure, modern, and efficient IT infrastructure across all constructed networks.


We are seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to support SOUTHCOM Cyber Information Technology Enterprise Services (SCITES).

This role is integral to SOUTHCOM's transition to a Zero Trust Architecture in alignment with the DoD Zero Trust Strategy and Executive Order.

Responsibilities and Tasks:
Oversee systems administration, operations, maintenance, and related activities of platforms deployed throughout the USSOUTHCOM enterprise.

Provide Tier 3 system administration support for 24/7 operations within the US SOUTHCOM Joint DoDIN Operations Center (JDOC).

Deploy Operating System, baseline software updates, and third-party updates via Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager.

Administer Active Directory:
users, groups, objects, forests/trees/domains/child domains, DNS, Group Policy/AGPM, ADFS, AD LDS, etc.

Administer VMware virtual environments to include ESXi hosts, vCenter appliances, Vsphere, Horizon, VDI, profile unity, and VSANs.


Implement security principles, practices, and procedures under the Risk Management Framework (RMF) to ensure compliance with applicable security regulations.

Download, stage and deploy systems-related security policies and updates to maintain information system compliance with DISA security policies and procedures (STIGs, IAVAs, etc.)

Create and maintain detailed system documentation.


Stay informed of rapidly evolving technology, consistently seeking new advancements, and collaborating with management to enhance current processes.

Develop scripts (PowerShell, VBScript, etc.) to automate recurring systems administration tasks, installations, and metrics gathering.

Troubleshoot complex system hardware and software issues.

Develop training materials for end users on the proper use of hardware and software.

Formulate implementation plans for software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.

Monitor and optimize systems to achieve peak performance levels.

Ensure workstation/server data integrity by implementing standard software and hardware solutions.

Lead efforts to ensure data/media recoverability by adhering to a schedule of system backups and database archive operations.


Conduct advanced hardware and software audits of workstations and servers to ensure compliance with established standards, policies, and configuration guidelines.

Support change management activities and resolve Tier 3 hardware and software issues.

Coordinate with vendor tier 4 support to troubleshoot issues as necessary.

Develop advanced technical solutions for the management of networks, software, hardware, configurations, and architectures.

Experience/Training Desired:


Experience managing enterprise IT teams in geographically dispersed locations supporting Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of servers (physical and virtual), Operating Systems (Windows, Linux, etc.), databases (SQL, Oracle), collaboration tools (SharePoint, Teams, Jabber), virtualization technology, software applications, scripting, SANs, and computer security in an enterprise.

Experience with Windows infrastructure services (DHCP, DNS, Authentication, Active Directory, and connectivity troubleshooting) required.

Understanding of Agile, ITIL, DevOps practices.


Experience with infrastructure including but not limited to: data center operations, server hardware, operating systems (Windows, Linux), web servers, databases, virtualization (VMware), networking, storage, monitoring, etc.

Experience with cloud-based solutions and virtual desktop enterprise environments.

Education Required:
BA/BS or equivalent with 5+ years of experience or 10+ years of experience.

Certification(s) Required:

DoD 8570 compliant:
IAT Level II or III Baseline Certification.

Computing Environment (CE) Certificate.
