Key Responsibilities:
The Site Operations Manager is responsible for orchestrating, allocating resources, and overseeing all ongoing projects within the organization. This role includes supervising all field personnel and equipment, tracking and reporting on project progress, establishing objectives and timelines, devising strategies, resolving challenges, and engaging with clients and suppliers as necessary.

  • Familiarity with heavy equipment operation, maintenance, and repairs.
  • Strong communication and documentation proficiency.
  • Knowledge of surveying, EDM, and GPS technologies.
  • Adherence to proper job site attire, including safety boots, vests, gloves, and coveralls.

Reporting Structure:
  • The Site Operations Manager reports directly to the President.
  • The Dispatcher, Foremen, and EQ/Safety Director report to the Site Operations Manager.
  • Grade Checkers, Operators, and Laborers report to the Foremen.
Authority and Responsibilities:
  • Exercise full decision-making authority related to the responsibilities of this position.
  • Establish authority levels for direct reports.
  • Communicate with clients regarding project status, issues, and billing.
  • Approve vacation schedules for subordinates.
  • Engage with project Superintendents and site engineers, as well as public agencies.
Key Duties:
  • Delegate tasks and coordinate equipment for project workers.
  • Analyze project actuals against budgeted figures using forecasting and variance reports.
  • Ensure company operations remain within established budgets, leveraging your experience in the grading industry to develop strategies and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Manage project flow effectively.
  • Identify and rectify unsafe working conditions.
  • Support direct reports in developing effective reporting for their functional areas.
  • Assist in the recruitment and testing of new employees as required.
  • Communicate requirements and schedules to equipment suppliers.
  • Document vendor performance and maintain a vendor log based on feedback from foremen and other personnel.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting Department on job cost and dispatch issues.
  • Participate in weekly project meetings.
  • Identify and train a backup to fulfill your duties in your absence.
  • Review and approve procedures from direct reports annually.
  • Oversee and manage project workers effectively.
  • Conduct performance reviews for all direct reports and update their job descriptions.
  • Complete daily reports documenting hours worked, project details, and job progress.
  • Maintain a high level of skill in all aspects of labor, grade checking, and equipment operation.
  • Order necessary equipment, labor, and materials.
  • Collaborate with foremen to create project forecasts.
  • Review dispatch at the end of each day.
  • Update and maintain current standard operating procedures for the position.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the President.
  • Conduct audits of internal procedures, policies, and expenditures to prevent wasteful or fraudulent practices.
