Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Therapeutic Assistant/Behavior Technician to join our team at Blue Bird Day. As a key member of our therapy team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality care and support to our clients with autism and other developmental disabilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist therapists in providing therapy treatment and ensure the clinic is organized, safe, and well-maintained.
  • Implement ABA process of care, including data collection, intervention, and outcome measurement, with children and families.
  • Obtain a paraprofessional license through the Illinois Department of Education (waiver available for certain certifications).
  • Participate in required supervision meetings and as needed per supervisor discretion.
  • Assist Blue Bird Day therapists, staff, and clients during sessions.
  • Monitor and supervise rest time and afterschool club.
  • Complete assigned lesson prep tasks and assist with daily data collection.
  • Assist in therapy room and lesson preparation under the direction of the Therapy Case Manager.
  • Ensure assigned zones are clean and organized.
  • Report to Therapy Case Manager, Therapeutic Assistant Department Lead, and Behavior Therapy Leads for daily tasks.
  • Participate in all required company orientation, professional development days, and ongoing trainings.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings, department meetings, and as needed team meetings.
  • Possible travel to client home sessions as needed.
  • Maintain a caseload of therapy groups and individual therapy sessions as assigned by scheduling department and Behavior therapy lead team.
  • Complete daily treatment notes, daily data input and analysis, and other documentation as needed within the required time frame.
  • Implement Blue Bird Day curriculum and theories of practice models supporting Blue Bird Day's therapeutic model.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with clients and families by providing parent education, home programs, and parent support as needed under supervision of BCBA.
  • Collaborate with the BCBA assigned to each client to complete supervision as required.
  • Collaborate with scheduling team to manage caseload requirements.
  • Create visual schedules, social stories, and client programs to help support therapy goals.
  • Assist in additional tasks as needed.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree or equivalent college credit (60 credits) required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1 year experience with Blue Bird Day as therapeutic assistant preferred.
  • Completion of 40-hour training of ASD and behavioral related subjects/evidence-based techniques (must be completed prior to first day).
  • Experience working with children or clients with special needs required.
  • Experience working with children with autism preferred.
  • Active BACB certification preferred.

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

The working environment may at times be busy with small groups of children and individual sessions with children while other clients/therapists are present.

Physical requirements include:

  • Ability to lift at least 35 lbs, including but not limited to lifting children, therapy equipment, etc.
  • Ability to walk and/or run if needed to keep clients safe.
  • Ability to implement behavior management techniques, based on training provided by the company.
  • Ability to use hands and arms to prepare and perform required therapy tasks.
  • Ability to utilize keyboard, desktop, and iPad to complete documentation required for funders.
