Position Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated Traffic Operations Coordinator to join our Traffic Operations Center. This full-time role involves overseeing traffic flow, managing scheduled events, and addressing unexpected incidents. The successful candidate will be responsible for data entry and quality assurance within the State DOT Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) or Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS). Please note that this is a 24/7 facility, and candidates must be flexible to work during weekends and holidays.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor traffic congestion and incident information using various tools, including ATMS, EM radio, CAD feeds, and local media traffic reports.
  • Document identified incidents in ATMS, alert relevant personnel, and provide additional responses as necessary.
  • Implement traffic management strategies using ATMS to alleviate congestion.
  • Activate public alerts for construction events, Amber Alerts, and other incidents as appropriate.
  • Respond to inquiries via email and phone, directing them to the appropriate staff when necessary.
  • Coordinate with other Department of Transportation agencies and law enforcement as needed.
  • Research and review planned construction, maintenance, and special events.
  • Assist in data collection for monthly reports, travel time reports, incident reports, and other requested documentation.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Six months of experience in a dispatch center, 911 operations, or a related field.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Capable of working in an office environment, including computer work and extended periods of sitting.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations.
  • Flexibility to work varying schedules to support a 24/7 operations center.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with regional freeway and arterial roadways is preferred.
  • Knowledge of incident management procedures is a plus.
  • Experience in emergency operations is advantageous.
