Summary Statement

This role involves active participation in regulatory radiation control field operations and administrative tasks within the Division of Public Health's Office of Radiation Control. The successful candidate will be qualified as an x-ray facility inspector and will have the responsibility of training other inspectors on various radiation modalities. The position also requires the ability to conduct inspections across all assigned modalities utilized in healthcare, industrial, educational, or research settings. Emergency preparedness and response training, including drills, will be a necessary component of this role.

Candidates must meet the following selective requirements in addition to the general job qualifications. Those who do not meet these criteria will not be considered qualified.

Are you certified by the FDA in Mammography? Do you hold a certification in Radiological Accident Assessment Concepts (RAAC) for emergency response?

Essential Functions

The essential functions outlined below are fundamental to all positions within this classification and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of duties for any single position. Conducts field studies or inspections to ensure compliance with permit and regulatory standards; observes, collects, analyzes, reviews, and interprets data from standard field studies, compliance inspections, and various regulatory submissions, providing recommendations as necessary. Performs statistical analyses of collected data. Conducts technical reviews and provides recommendations on permit applications and other regulatory submissions to ensure adherence to regulations. Prepares permits, technical reports, and enforcement documentation. Responds to technical and regulatory inquiries from state, local, and federal agencies, as well as public and private organizations or individuals.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Environmental Scientist III Candidates must demonstrate competence in the following areas:

A Bachelor's degree or higher in Life, Physical, or Applied Science or a related field. A minimum of six months of experience in managing environmental or natural resources projects, including planning, developing, implementing, managing, and evaluating projects to meet objectives. At least two years of experience in analyzing and evaluating scientific data. A minimum of two years of experience interpreting environmental laws, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures. Six months of experience utilizing an automated information system for data management tasks. Six months of experience in technical report writing.

Conditions of Hire

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DelDOT participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with necessary information to confirm work authorization in the U.S.
