Position Summary:

VERTEX is in search of a Lead Scientist/Engineer to spearhead the development and execution of comprehensive assessment and remediation initiatives across New England. Our varied clientele encompasses private developers, property owners, legal professionals, and municipal, state, and federal bodies. Our offices are engaged in some of the most notable projects in the region, collaborating with leading developers. This role presents an exceptional opportunity to assume a senior leadership position within a skilled team of remediation experts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and conduct complex projects that may involve environmental due diligence, subsurface investigations, indoor air quality evaluations, vapor intrusion assessments, and soil and groundwater remediation.
  • Engage directly with clients to comprehend project requirements and formulate suitable scopes of work.
  • Manage projects to adhere to milestones, budget constraints, deadlines, regulatory standards, and other performance metrics.
  • Take charge of all phases of the project lifecycle: planning, scope definition, budgeting, coordination, execution, and delivery.
  • Select and manage project personnel and subcontractors effectively.
  • Coordinate activities across multiple project functions to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Prepare and conduct senior reviews of proposals, technical plans, regulatory submissions, and other technical assessment reports, ensuring the accuracy of data and summaries.
  • Review Health and Safety Plans and Job Safety Analyses for project sites.
  • Actively participate in client engagement initiatives to foster relationships and secure work.
  • Meet utilization and performance metrics as set by management.
  • Additional responsibilities may include property condition assessments, commercial energy evaluations, and other relevant project tasks.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of professional experience with demonstrated expertise in environmental consulting, including client-facing due diligence, remediation, compliance, and industrial hygiene projects.
  • Possession of appropriate licensure to serve as a senior lead and reviewer on project work (LSP, PG, PE, CIH, etc.).
  • Proven ability to effectively lead project teams in both technical and operational capacities.
  • Successful history of managing complex environmental projects encompassing planning, assessment, remediation, and monitoring of affected properties.
  • Demonstrated success in business development.
  • Willingness to travel regionally and occasionally nationally for client engagements and events; valid driver's license required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Relevant safety certifications in accordance with OSHA regulations (OSHA 10/30, HAZWOPER).
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong technical report writing abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
