Open Systems Architecture Engineer

Position Overview:

John H. Northrop & Associates Inc. is seeking an Open Systems Architecture Engineer to collaborate with our government client within the Technology Development Directorate focused on Army Aviation.

Key Responsibilities:

As a vital member of a Science and Technology development team dedicated to advancing manned and unmanned aviation teaming technologies, you will:
  • Collaborate with a diverse group of contractors, military personnel, and civilian engineers/architects, serving as an architectural consultant to program and project leaders regarding the development and application of architectures, including scheduling and workload management.
  • Engage in the design and development of Human System Interfaces and mission systems that enhance Holistic Situational Awareness and Decision Making for both manned and unmanned aviation systems utilizing autonomous teaming.
  • Leverage advanced expertise in hardware and software architecture and design methodologies to create and assess architecture models, ensuring their effective integration with other models.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Modular Open System Architecture (MOSA) principles and common interface standards, such as FACE, while possessing experience with Army Aviation's Future Vertical Lift Cross Functional Team Architecture Collaborative Working Group (ACWG).
  • Provide guidance to the client on autonomy requirements and its integration into aircraft system designs aimed at reducing cognitive workload for crew members.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required, along with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD issued security clearance.
  • A minimum of 5 years of post-degree experience in systems engineering and architecture development related to aircraft systems integration.
  • 3-5 years of experience in future vertical lift systems and software-intensive military manned and unmanned aviation mission systems.
  • Familiarity with DoD Digital Engineering policy and its application in Army programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex data, drawing logical system-level conclusions and formulating actionable recommendations for program and senior leadership.
  • Proficient in establishing and optimizing priorities while managing planning and readiness activities.
