Job Summary
The Human Resources Generalist is tasked with delivering comprehensive Human Resource support for the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division, focusing on employee relations, disciplinary actions, grievances, unemployment claims, leave management, Workers' Compensation, and performance evaluations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To effectively perform this role, the individual must be capable of executing each essential duty listed below. Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities as per the Americans with Disabilities Act.
1. Receives and logs employee grievances and disciplinary records. Responds to requests for disciplinary history.
2. Prepares documentation for unemployment claims.
3. Provides administrative support for leave of absence processing by distributing forms, reviewing submissions for completeness, drafting approval notifications, and maintaining records in the HR system.
4. Processes timecards for employees on extended leaves by entering leave codes into the HR system and communicating status changes to the Benefits Office.
5. Assists with Workers' Compensation claims by reviewing and logging reports, liaising with the Workers' Compensation office, and preparing wage statements.
6. Distributes performance evaluations to managers; collects, reviews, and files completed evaluations.
7. Plans and implements monthly initiatives to foster positive employee relations.
8. Aids in coordinating ADA accommodations and medical evaluations.
9. Assists employees with inquiries regarding various HR topics, including policies and benefits.
10. Prepares, maintains, and analyzes reports necessary for departmental functions and prepares periodic reports for management as required.
11. Acts as a liaison with the employee assistance program for referred employees.
12. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Equipment Operated
Standard office equipment and technology, including copy machines, personal computers, and telephones.
Confidential Data
All court-related information regarding hearings and other sensitive matters encountered while working in the facility.
Working Conditions
This role may involve frequent interruptions and the need to manage multiple inquiries simultaneously. The work environment is typically quiet.
Usual Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly. The employee frequently needs to sit, reach with hands and arms, and perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Occasionally, the employee may need to lift or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

To successfully perform this role, an individual must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Ability to interpret and utilize Human Resources terminology.
- Capacity to manage stressful situations and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Understanding of various reference materials, including Employee Handbooks and relevant legal codes.
- Knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and Workers' Compensation regulations.
- Excellent customer service skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to meet deadlines and communicate effectively across all staff levels.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Comprehensive understanding of Human Resource functions and responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or a related field, or equivalent work experience, along with two (2) years of experience in a Human Resources generalist role, recruitment, or a related field.
