Job Title: Field Biologist

We are seeking a highly skilled Field Biologist to join our team at ERM. As a Field Biologist, you will be responsible for conducting pre-construction nesting bird and other special status species surveys and construction monitoring across our client's territory.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field surveys and monitoring activities to identify and assess the presence of special status species.
  • Work independently in remote locations, often with limited access to resources and infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with construction crews to ensure compliance with client requirements and provide advice on maintaining a safe and sustainable work environment.
  • Collect and analyze data using electronic and handheld GPS devices.
  • Compile and submit daily reports and survey reports to stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Requirements:
  • At least 2+ years of experience in Avian Biology and other special status species.
  • Expertise in multiple species, including Southwestern Willow Fly Catcher, Burrowing Owl, Spotted Owl, Eagles/raptors, Least Bell's Vireo, California Gnatcatcher, Yosemite toad, CA Red-Legged Frog, Yellow Legged Frog subspecies, Pacific Fisher, San Bernardino Kangaroo Rat, Stephen's Kangaroo Rat, Western Pond Turtle or Desert Tortoise.
  • Familiarity with nesting bird survey protocols and general bird identification skills.
  • Ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and on challenging terrain.
  • Working knowledge of sub-meter accuracy GPS technologies and map interpretation skills.
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation of work.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel with overnight stays possible.
  • Demonstrated independent and effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Possess a valid driver's license.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish highly preferred.
