Aquatic Safety Supervisor

Under the guidance of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatic Safety Supervisor is tasked with ensuring the utmost safety and optimal swimming conditions for all visitors in the aquatic facility, both in the water and on the deck. This role emphasizes accident prevention and the prompt and effective response to emergencies. The Aquatic Safety Supervisor is also responsible for fostering positive interactions with members, contributing to their satisfaction and retention.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Arrive at least 15 minutes before the scheduled shift.
  • Ensure that all necessary lifeguard equipment is readily available during duty hours and properly stored when off duty.
  • Oversee the safety of all patrons in the aquatic area by monitoring all recreational swimming and swim lessons in line with established policies and guidelines.
  • Conduct regular water quality tests and maintain appropriate chemical levels as required. Report any issues to the facility manager.
  • Address minor incidents as needed and follow through with all necessary incident reporting procedures.
  • Build and maintain professional and respectful relationships with parents, program participants, and facility management staff.
  • Maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid.
  • Participate in meetings and training sessions as requested by the Aquatics Director.
  • Alert the Aquatics Director to any conditions or practices that may pose a risk to the health and safety of members and guests.
  • Utilize preventive lifeguarding techniques to minimize or eliminate hazardous situations.
  • Adhere to the guidelines outlined in the Lifeguard Manual.
  • Assist in scheduling and providing emergency coverage as needed.
  • Communicate information regarding programs and schedules to members.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on the needs of the facility.

  • Dynamic personality, enjoys a fast-paced work environment.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and engaging with diverse audiences.
  • Dedicated to delivering exceptional customer service, enhancing the aquatic experience for all participants.

Qualifications and Skills:
Education and Experience:
  • Currently pursuing a High School diploma or GED.
Certifications:
  • YMCA Lifeguard Certification or equivalent.
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
  • CPRO and oxygen administration certification or to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
Additional Skills:
  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to engage with individuals at all levels.
  • Organized and detail-oriented.
  • Excellent communication skills; capable of effectively interacting with youth and adults, including program participants, parents, volunteers, and staff.
  • Able to respond to safety and emergency situations promptly.
  • Required to wear the designated lifeguard uniform provided by the organization.
