You will also be responsible for administering First Aid and CPR as needed, and for lifeguarding at municipal pools, which may include organizing and conducting recreational activities and assisting in site supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor activities in and near the water through patron surveillance
  • Enforce facility safety rules and regulations and educate patrons
  • Recognize and provide quick response to any and all emergencies, including rescue, First Aid, and CPR
  • Provide swimming instructions to adults and children
  • Clean and perform maintenance of pool equipment, pool deck, swimming pools, and locker room facilities
  • Conduct water games and sports
  • Perform related work as required
Requirements
  • Must possess a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
  • Must be able to successfully pass a performance test, which includes simulated pool rescues, every six months after employment
  • Must be free from color blindness and have no permanent abnormality of either eye; must have at least 20/40 or better vision in each eye with or without corrective lenses
  • Must be willing and able to work on weekends as scheduled during special events for the City and Aquatic Complex
  • Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly
Working Environment

The Recreation Lifeguard will work in a fast-paced aquatic environment, with frequent exposure to water and potential hazards. The position requires the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and customer service skills.
