POSITION SUMMARY

The individual in this role is responsible for overseeing safety measures and enforcing pool regulations to protect the well-being of patrons. This position acts as the lead lifeguard, supervising part-time and temporary lifeguards. The employee will provide First Aid and CPR when necessary, exercising initiative and sound judgment in managing pool activities and responding to emergencies within established guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT AS AN AQUATIC SAFETY SUPERVISOR
A. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
B. One (1) to three (3) years of lifeguard experience
C. Lifeguard Certification from the American Red Cross
D. Candidates must successfully complete a swim test prior to employment All required certifications must remain current to maintain employment in this role.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Essential functions represent the core duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The following tasks are indicative of the responsibilities associated with this classification:
  • Manage daily operations of the facility under supervisory guidance.
  • Monitor activities in and around the water through vigilant surveillance.
  • Assist supervisors in completing daily responsibilities.
  • Report any violations of operational policies to immediate supervisors.
  • Organize and lead recreational activities, site supervision, and special events.
  • Coordinate daily programs with lifeguards and recreation personnel.
  • May assist in the training and performance evaluation of new lifeguards.
  • Conduct American Red Cross courses for employees and the public, including Water Safety, Lifeguarding CPR/AED/First Aid, and Basic Water Rescue.
  • Instruct and supervise aquatic programs and courses.
  • Help educate, monitor, and enforce safety regulations.
  • Respond promptly to emergencies, including rescues, First Aid, and CPR.
  • Conduct safety orientations, administer swim tests, and fit life jackets.
  • Maintain cleanliness of pool equipment, deck, swimming pools, and locker facilities.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, including safety checks and inspections.
  • Execute operational tasks related to aquatic events and activities.
  • May test and maintain swimming pool water chemistry.
  • Work weekends as scheduled during special events.
  • Document and report on shift activities, incidents, and facility inspections.
  • Assist in planning and implementing programs, events, facility maintenance, and staffing.
  • Participate in in-service training.
  • Adhere to all essential duties for recreational lifeguards.
  • Perform related work as required.
JOB REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency.
  2. One (1) to three (3) years of lifeguard experience.
  3. Possess an American Red Cross Lifeguard certification.
  4. Must obtain Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) License within six months of hire.
  5. Must successfully pass a performance test, including simulated pool rescues, prior to hire and every six months thereafter.
  6. All required certifications must remain current to maintain employment in this role.
PREFERENCES
  1. Experience in aquatic programming and events.
  2. Lifeguard Instructor Certification (LGI) and/or Water Safety Instructor Certification (WSI).
  3. Supervisory experience.
VISION REQUIREMENTS - Must be free from color blindness and have no permanent abnormality of either eye; must have at least 20/50 vision in each eye without correction and must have 20/20 vision in each eye separately with correction. Employees are required to wear corrective lenses while on duty if vision is not at least 20/50 without correction. THE VISION REQUIREMENTS CANNOT BE WAIVED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

This position involves medium physical demands, including exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally, up to 50 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
