Job Title: Resident Advisor

Covenant House California is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Resident Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our direct care staff, you will play a vital role in providing shelter supervision and residential services to our residents.

Job Summary:

The Resident Advisor is responsible for providing a safe and supportive environment for our residents, while also ensuring the smooth operation of our shelter. This includes providing custodial supervision, supporting Case Managers and Supervisors, and maintaining a clean and safe living environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide custodial supervision of the shelter, including coverage of various areas of the facility.
  • Support Case Managers and Supervisors in providing residential services, including signing out TAP cards, packing and storing belongings, and inspecting the facility for safety and maintenance.
  • Log medication and document resident medication intake.
  • Answer telephones and monitor resident telephone calls.
  • Complete work orders and requisitions as needed.
  • Complete discharge paperwork and build rapport with residents.
  • Work directly with residents to address their needs and concerns.
  • Supervise residents during meal times and inspect common areas and bedrooms for cleanliness.
  • Monitor residents in the clothing room and be alert to their surroundings at all times.
  • Function as Person in Charge (PIC) as designated.
  • Provide support to Human Trafficking victims and residents with higher mental health needs.
  • Coordinate and facilitate in-house group activities for residents.
  • Assist with supervision of residents during special activities and outings.
  • Be timely and present at all scheduled meetings and document as needed.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma preferred; relevant life and/or work experience will be considered in lieu of HS Diploma.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years' experience working with at-risk youth.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Outlook, ACCESS, etc.).
  • Valid CA driver's license, good driving record, and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. on occasion, bend, sit, and stand for prolonged periods.
Working Conditions:

General business/office environment. Weekend/Holiday work may be required.

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Adolescent Development, Crisis Intervention, Multi-cultural Awareness.
  • Knowledge/training of Pro-Act, CPR, and FIRST AID.
