Job Title: Project Engineering Specialist
Salary: $88,000 - $130,000, Full-Time, Exempt Position
Benefits: Health, Dental, Vision, up to 3% retirement contribution, vacation and sick time.
Eligibility to work in the United States required including a valid driver's license. Sponsorship unavailable.
Relocation Assistance is available, but preference to existing candidates in within the Columbus, OH metro area.
Overview
Under the guidance of the Project Manager, the Project Engineering Specialist plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful and timely completion of construction projects. Responsibilities include developing schedules, managing budgets, conducting progress reviews, preparing bids, and overseeing change orders and submittal lists. This position requires effective communication with owners, subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to facilitate project coordination. Travel to various project sites may be necessary.
Key Responsibilities
The following duties are representative of the role and may include additional tasks as required:
1. Develop comprehensive project management documentation, including schedules, material procurement, cost management, and progress tracking.
2. Collaborate and communicate effectively with owners, vendors, subcontractors, architects, and suppliers to ensure timely project execution.
3. Conduct site inspections to assess compliance with specifications, safety standards, and progress by subcontractors.
4. Prepare operations and maintenance manuals as necessary.
5. Proactively take on additional responsibilities to support organizational needs.
6. Maintain accurate and timely submittal logs based on project specifications and drawings.
7. Ensure the receipt of approved submittals from Architects or Engineers and communicate any potential schedule impacts to the Project Manager.
8. Assist the Project Manager in preparing documentation related to change requests.
9. Ensure the timely completion of all required project close-out documents.
10. Distribute contract documents to subcontractors, including all relevant drawings and specifications.
11. Accurately record and distribute meeting minutes in a timely manner.
12. Schedule and attend all necessary construction meetings, including pre-bid, project, and closeout meetings.
13. Foster strong relationships with customers and conduct project meetings to ensure timely payments.
14. Solicit proposals from subcontractors and suppliers prior to submission deadlines.
15. Review contracts with the Owner and Project Manager and prepare documentation for General Manager approval.
16. Submit requests for surety bonds and insurance certificates as required.
17. Manage the building permit application process and follow up on approvals.
18. During the construction phase, oversee project quality, schedule adherence, budget management, and safety compliance.
19. Maintain and utilize project management tools to track performance.
20. Communicate any changes to plans, specifications, or schedules to subcontractors and suppliers.
21. Report on productivity, costs, quality control, and any issues affecting project outcomes.
22. Develop operations and maintenance manuals as needed.
Required Qualifications
1. A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience. A minimum of 3 years of experience in general construction or project engineering in a similar industry.
2. Familiarity with standard practices and procedures in the construction industry.
3. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
4. Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
5. Proficient in relevant software or capable of quickly learning new tools.
6. Demonstrated leadership abilities.
7. Willingness to travel and relocate as necessary.
8. Basic mathematical skills for calculations and planning.
9. Strong reading comprehension for understanding reports and documentation.
10. Proficient in operating computer workstations and business machines efficiently.

Physical and Environmental Demands
1. Typical construction site environment.
2. Physically capable of navigating construction sites, including climbing and monitoring activities.
3. Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, twisting, and reaching.
4. Visual acuity for both near and far distances.
5. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
6. Capable of pushing and pulling objects weighing 60-80 pounds.
7. Proficient in various physical activities including sitting, standing, walking, climbing, and stooping.
