POSITION SUMMARY:
The Possible Zone (TPZ), a nonprofit organization, is in search of a Design Lab Technical Educator to enhance the educational experience within our four classroom Design Labs. The successful candidate will possess a robust background in maker education and demonstrate a commitment to bridging the opportunity gap. This role is primarily on-site, requiring presence at our Boston Innovation Center five days a week.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Act as a dedicated steward of TPZ's Design Lab tools and resources, ensuring regular maintenance and safety compliance.
- Develop and enforce safety protocols for all equipment, including laser cutters, milling machines, and sewing machines.
- Collaborate with fellow technicians and program teams to design interdisciplinary projects and curricula.
- Provide direct assistance to students and educators in entrepreneurship and specialized classes.
- Create comprehensive documentation, tutorials, and training materials for the effective use of Design Lab equipment.
- Work alongside the Fab Lab Manager to establish training and certification processes for equipment usage.
- Consult with students and educators on design and fabrication methodologies.
- Supervise and mentor student assistants and teaching aides.
- Manage inventory and maintenance tracking for equipment and tools.
- Facilitate workshops and classes for various stakeholders, promoting creativity and innovation.
- Uphold a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of work.
- Perform additional duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience with digital fabrication tools and design software.
- Experience in teaching or mentoring within a makerspace setting.
- Familiarity with creative technologies beyond the Design Lab, such as coding, electronics, and large-format printing.
- Ability to rapidly learn new technologies and tools.
- Experience working with diverse audiences of varying skill levels.
- Strong collaborative and creative mindset.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a dynamic environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and TinkerCAD.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational abilities and time management skills.
- Passion for the mission and vision of TPZ.
- Bilingual skills in Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole are advantageous.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary range: $65,000, commensurate with experience.
