Taxation Specialist

The Town of Ashland is seeking a highly skilled Taxation Specialist to join their team. This full-time position involves overseeing the Assessing Department's operations, ensuring accurate valuations of real and personal property, and maintaining compliance with Massachusetts General Laws and Town By-laws.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee real and personal property assessment and valuation functions.
• Manage the day-to-day administrative and technical operations of the Assessing Department.
• Coordinate cyclical inspection programs and administer processing of value changes.
• Use specialized software applications for data input and valuation database maintenance.
• Provide technical assistance to taxpayers and the general public.
• Represent the Town of Ashland before the Appellate Tax Board.
• Supervise and train Assessing Department staff.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, real estate, or a related field.
• Seven years or more of progressively responsible experience in property valuation for tax purposes.
• Five years of supervisory experience.
• Comprehensive technical knowledge of assessing practices and financial record keeping.
• Experience with specialized assessing software and the DOR Gateway program.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional designation(s) of Massachusetts Accredited Assessor (MAA), Residential Massachusetts Assessor (RMA), or Certified Massachusetts Assessor (CMA).
• General knowledge of building, construction, and zoning codes, surveying, mapping, and deeds.
