SUPERVISORY CONTROL: Mental Health Manager

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Regular hours are Monday through Friday, schedule to be determined. Evening and weekend work may be necessary as job responsibilities require.

GENERAL DUTIES:

The role is essential within the classroom team, providing behavioral assistance to foster each child's social-emotional development. The position involves implementing behavioral strategies aimed at enhancing children's social-emotional competencies, thereby improving their learning capabilities and overall success in educational settings and beyond. Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, kneel, stoop, bend, reach, and sit on the floor regularly. While travel is not typically expected, it may be necessary based on job duties.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Comprehend and strive to fulfill the goals, philosophy, and objectives of Head Start and Childcare.
  2. Assist children in acquiring appropriate social-emotional skills by organizing Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) activities to intentionally teach these skills, utilizing natural classroom situations as teaching opportunities.
  3. Apply Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) strategies with children demonstrating challenging behaviors in the classroom, providing one-on-one support as needed.
  4. Collaborate closely with classroom staff as part of the team to develop and execute individualized behavior plans.
  5. Engage in weekly meetings with classroom staff to review children's progress and strategize on meeting their needs effectively.
  6. Participate in all PBIS staff meetings and monthly team discussions as required.
  7. Maintain confidentiality regarding any matters related to children or families involved with Head Start.
  8. Exhibit punctuality and reliability in attendance.
  9. Assist in keeping an updated inventory of PBIS materials and resources.
  10. Act as an advocate for Head Start within the community.
  11. Maintain regular communication with the Mental Health Manager.
  12. Attend training sessions and staff meetings organized by Head Start.

Qualifications:

A High School diploma is required, along with a minimum of one year of experience working with young children. Preference will be given to candidates with behavioral health training and/or experience.
