Emeryville, California, United States unspun Full time
Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and friendly Facilities & Office Manager to become a vital part of our team. As an essential member of our Operations team, your main duty will be to manage and enhance our physical facilities, ensuring they effectively support our company's dynamic growth and innovative spirit. We are looking for a candidate with a background in facility oversight, equipment upkeep, and safety regulations who is enthusiastic about the challenges and opportunities of working in a Series B-funded startup.

About Our Company

At unspun, our goal is to decrease global carbon emissions by 1% by transforming the clothing production process. We imagine a future where every item of clothing is produced on-demand, thereby eliminating overproduction and fostering a deeper connection between individuals and their garments. We initially launched our custom denim line to refine our custom-fit algorithm and demonstrate the viability of our on-demand vision. Subsequently, we introduced a groundbreaking 3D weaving technology, VegaTM, which fabricates garments in mere minutes, facilitating (almost) zero-waste, on-demand manufacturing.

Recognized in Time's Best Inventions & Fast Company's World Changing Ideas, unspun is committed to swiftly shifting the trillion-dollar apparel industry towards a more intentional, inclusive, and efficient model by emphasizing the intersection of sustainability and profitability.

Your Profile

You thrive in fast-paced, early-stage research and development environments, eager to bring high-quality products to market. You are adaptable, capable of switching between various roles and contexts. You can work both independently and collaboratively, demonstrating flexibility, self-motivation, and curiosity. Your strong interpersonal skills enable you to manage complex programs with diverse needs across the organization. You are invigorated by tackling significant challenges in a changing R&D landscape. You are strategic, organized, and an effective communicator, inspiring those around you. You relish daily challenges and celebrate achievements.

Key Responsibilities

The primary focus of this role is to oversee and maintain all elements of our physical Microfactory, ensuring a safe, efficient, and productive environment. You will collaborate with various teams, particularly in hardware, product development, and operations, to bring the world's first 3D woven products to market.

  • Manage daily operations of the Hollis Microfactory, including maintenance, safety, organization, and security.
  • Coordinate with contractors and vendors for facility improvements, repairs, and installations.
  • Develop and enforce facility management policies and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards.
  • Support the installation and upkeep of manufacturing equipment.
  • Assist with space planning and office relocations as necessary.
  • Oversee facility budgets and enhance operational efficiency.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in office management or facility oversight, preferably with hardware warehouse exposure.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Experience with hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery setup.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as teamwork is essential.
  • Ability to remain on your feet for extended periods, perform repetitive tasks, and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
Preferred Attributes
  • Demonstrated experience in facility management, ideally within a manufacturing or R&D context.
  • Knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Exceptional organizational and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to quickly and effectively troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach to problem-solving.
Additional Advantages
  • Experience in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Familiarity with sustainable building practices and energy efficiency.
  • Knowledge of OSHA Compliance & Safety Regulations.
  • Experience with B-Corp Certification processes.

We do not expect you to possess all the qualities listed, and we welcome candidates who are eager to learn in areas where they may have less experience. If you are passionate about developing your skills, we encourage you to consider this opportunity.
