Position Overview:
Job Title: Custodian
Employment Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary:
The Custodian operates under close supervision to execute general cleaning responsibilities, which include dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming. This role requires the use of appropriate materials and techniques to ensure cleanliness and safety in all areas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform cleaning, dusting, and wiping of surfaces.
- Sweep, mop, or vacuum floors as needed.
- Empty and sanitize waste receptacles and trash bins.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms following established protocols; restock restroom supplies.
- Assist in the preparation of meeting spaces, classrooms, and events.
- Adhere to instructions regarding the safe use of cleaning chemicals and supplies.
- Wash accessible windows and clean window coverings.
- Complete additional tasks and special projects as assigned.
Essential Functions:

Qualifications:
Ability to handle a variety of cleaning agents and equipment; proficiency in using custodial tools such as vacuums and brooms; effective communication skills; capability to follow directions; basic computer skills for data entry and retrieval; strong interpersonal skills to foster positive working relationships.

Certificates:
Depending on local and state regulations, a valid driver's license may be required.
Physical Demands:
Employees must be capable of performing the following physical activities for extended periods: maneuvering around the workplace, standing and walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, and lifting items weighing up to 35 pounds regularly, and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Tasks may also include pushing or pulling equipment weighing up to 70 pounds and climbing ladders or step stools.
Work Environment:
This position is performed in an office setting or at various client locations, which may include commercial facilities, government buildings, or military installations. Employees may encounter exposure to cleaning chemicals, noise from maintenance equipment, and varying indoor and outdoor temperatures.
