Job Overview:
The Human Resources Specialist works closely with the Director of Human Resources & Administration and the Senior Leadership team to facilitate the daily operations of the HR department. This includes responsibilities such as recruiting and interviewing candidates, managing payroll, benefits, and leave, as well as upholding company policies and procedures. Key focus areas encompass HR strategic initiatives, policy execution, compensation and classification, recruitment, onboarding, retention, technology systems, reporting, employee engagement assessments, payroll management, and benefits administration.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inputs, maintains, and processes data within the payroll system, which may include employee compensation details, hours worked, paid leave, deductions, and other pertinent information.
- Ensures accurate processing of payroll deductions for taxes, benefits, and other contributions.
- Reconciles payroll records with the general ledger and monthly bank statements.
- Issues or reissues checks or direct deposits due to payroll discrepancies or terminations.
- Conducts compensation assessments and maintains salary structures for staff.
- Serves as the primary benefits administrator, assisting with open enrollment, claims analysis, and staff benefits enrollment.
- Monitors and documents compliance with required training and assessments, including safety training and professional certifications.
- Conducts or gathers all pre-employment vetting materials and verifies employee eligibility through background checks and references.
- Implements orientation programs for new hires and employee recognition initiatives.
- Performs routine tasks necessary for administering HR programs, including compensation, benefits, disciplinary actions, performance management, and training.
- Addresses employment-related inquiries from applicants and employees, escalating complex issues as needed.
- Participates in employee disciplinary meetings and investigations.
- Ensures compliance with employment laws and regulations, regularly reviewing policies for adherence.
- Stays informed about trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and advancements in human resources and employment law.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, organizational psychology, or a related field is highly preferred.
Experience:
1-2 years of progressive experience in Human Resources or
1-2 years of experience in accounting or bookkeeping with at least 1 year in payroll.
Technical Skills:
Proficient in Microsoft Office 365.
Experience with ADP is preferred.
Certifications:
SHRM - CP or equivalent certification is a plus.
