Job Title: Senior Registered Nurse

Parkland Health and Hospital System (PHHS) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Senior Registered Nurse to join our team. As a Senior Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare organization.

Job Summary:

The Senior Registered Nurse will be responsible for coordinating patient care delivery, focusing on a particular patient population or specific health conditions. You will use the nursing process to assess patients, identify nursing diagnoses, develop and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate patient responses. Your expertise will be essential in ensuring that patients receive safe and effective care, and that our healthcare team is equipped to handle complex patient needs.

Responsibilities:
  1. Serves as a patient advocate, focusing on patient needs, rights, confidentiality, and religious and cultural preferences.
  2. Maintains positive working relationships with all Parkland internal and external customers, employees, etc.
  3. Provides patient care educational information and training to patients and family members.
  4. May serve as a resource for specific clinical patient care issues.
  5. Provides appropriate hand-off any time care is relinquished.
  6. May participate in community outreach activities (such as health fairs, community collaborations of outreach clinics) as assigned.
  7. Maintains and implements knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact or govern nursing practice.
  8. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans.
  9. Performs appropriate patient assessments.
  10. Participates consistently in Universal Protocol, site marking identification, identification of appropriate clinical interventions, and skills appropriate to pre and post-procedure care.
  11. Utilizes critical thinking skills to ensure optimal patient care.
  12. Provides safe medication administration and appropriate pain management.
  13. Ensures the patient meets discharge criteria and provides appropriate hand-off or discharge to ensure safe continuity of care.
  14. Completes appropriate documentation.
  15. Works with other staff in providing direction to non-nursing staff.
  16. Participates in information exchanges with nursing and other Parkland staff that support the standards, mission, goals, and objectives of the department and Parkland Hospital.
  17. Serves as Charge Nurse as needed.
  18. Serves as a preceptor or trainer to newer nursing and clinical staff members as well as student trainees.
  19. Identifies ways to improve work process and improve patient and customer satisfaction.
  20. Makes recommendations to supervisor.
  21. Implements and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland Hospital.
  22. May serve on various unit and interdisciplinary committees as opportunities present.
  23. Must be proactive.
  24. Must anticipate and respond to patient/family/physician/coworkers needs.
  25. Demonstrates an energetic and positive approach to work.
  26. Demonstrates a sense of ownership and pays attention to details of job ensures all mandatory obligations are met.
  27. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in peri-anesthesia nursing practice by attending seminars, workshops, reading professional journals, and actively participating in professional organizations.
  28. Maintains State of Texas Licensure as a Registered Nurse, plus any additional required licensures/certifications.
  29. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  30. Prepares and conducts an in-service educational program for the Periprocedural Prep/Recovery area at least once per year.
