How You'll Contribute

The Cost Accounting Specialist plays a crucial role in managing the cost accounting systems and processes within the organization. Key responsibilities encompass inventory valuation and oversight, analysis of sales costs, product profitability, and conducting necessary cost evaluations. This position is accountable for maintaining the integrity of the cost system, data collection, and reporting on margin analysis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full-time, onsite role at our Chatsworth, CA facility.
  • Execute all cost accounting functions, including inventory assessment, sales cost analysis, product profitability, and variance evaluations.
  • Generate reports and analyses related to manufacturing efficiency, capital budget assessments, forecasting support, and development of labor and overhead rates.
  • Establish standard costs for manufactured products.
  • Formulate and evaluate cost standards.
  • Assist Controllers in the monthly financial closing process to ensure timely financial reporting.
  • Communicate and clarify cost and financial performance results to diverse audiences.
  • Engage in the formulation of annual budgets and operational plans.
  • Lead cycle count initiatives to ensure the accuracy of inventory records.
  • Validate revenue and cost of goods sold during month-end closing and forecasting.
  • Provide support to fellow accountants with invoicing and capital expenditures.
  • Collaborate effectively with personnel across all levels and departments, including manufacturing, sales, engineering, and procurement.
  • Analyze and spearhead improvement teams in relevant value streams and processes.
  • Facilitate external financial audits concerning product costing and inventory valuation.
  • Deliver analyses to support operational enhancement initiatives and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Provide assessments on capital expenditure projects.
  • Comply with all workplace safety regulations, policies, and laws as mandated by the Company and relevant authorities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Availability for a full-time position with established shift schedules.
  • 3-5 years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing setting; aerospace and government contracting experience is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical abilities, precision, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems.
  • Competence in spreadsheet and database management.
  • Commitment and skills necessary to meet critical business deadlines.
  • Self-motivated with strong ethical standards.
  • BA/BS or equivalent degree in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
  • Proficient in spreadsheet and database applications.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a proven capacity to adhere to standard procedures.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, and defense is a plus.

Work Environment:

A significant portion of work time is spent in a machine shop where temperatures may fluctuate. The environment may also include exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and vapors from coolant. Industry-standard safety equipment is provided, and specific notices are posted in areas where safety equipment is required.

Compensation and Benefits:

Employee Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, long-term disability, and a 401(k) plan with up to a 6% QACA company match.

Compensation Range: The Cost Accountant compensation range for onsite California applicants is $75,000 - $85,000 annually, commensurate with experience. Shift differentials may apply for certain shifts.
