Financial Aid & Scholarship Officer I

Role Overview

The primary function of this role is to deliver expert guidance and counseling regarding student financial aid programs. This position involves making informed decisions that require initiative and sound judgment to effectively address the financial needs of students and their families.

Core Duties

Typical:
  1. Utilizes independent judgment to counsel students and families on resolving educational financial challenges through various funding options including scholarships, loans, grants, and work-study opportunities.
  2. Responds to inquiries and provides guidance through various communication channels as necessary.
  3. Manages the processing of financial aid and scholarship applications, including the awarding and disbursement of funds, while monitoring student eligibility.
  4. Exercises professional judgment in reviewing student files, gathering necessary documentation, and making adjustments as required.
  5. Administers the awarding of financial aid and scholarships in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
  6. Facilitates presentations, seminars, and workshops for students both on and off-campus.
  7. Provides support to various departments as needed.
  8. Maintains current knowledge of regulations governing financial aid and scholarship programs.
  9. Interprets and adheres to federal, state, and institutional policies regarding financial aid and scholarships.
  10. Participates in the evaluation and revision of complex policies and procedures related to financial aid and scholarships.
  11. Contributes to the development of financial aid informational materials for students and the university community.
  12. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Periodic:
  1. Generates reports for leadership as required.
  2. Attends relevant meetings and conferences as necessary.
  3. Engages in committees and task forces across the institution as needed.
Financial Aid & Scholarship Officer II

Role Overview

This position is responsible for the administration and processing of specific financial aid programs, including high-profile initiatives. It requires decision-making capabilities that address the unique needs of students and involves the management of one or more financial aid and scholarship program areas.

Core Duties
  1. Utilizes independent judgment to advise and counsel students and families on resolving educational financial challenges through various funding options.
  2. Responds to inquiries and provides guidance through various communication channels as necessary.
  3. Manages the processing of financial aid and scholarship applications, including the awarding and disbursement of funds.
  4. Oversees specific high-profile financial aid and scholarship programs.
  5. Handles processing through Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) including transfer monitoring and student loan processing.
  6. Exercises professional judgment in reviewing student files, gathering necessary documentation, and making adjustments as required.
  7. Administers the awarding of financial aid and scholarships in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
  8. Facilitates presentations, seminars, and workshops for students.
  9. Provides support to various departments as needed.
  10. Researches regulations and peer programs to stay informed about financial aid and scholarship governance.
  11. Interprets and adheres to federal, state, and institutional policies regarding financial aid and scholarships.
  12. Provides guidance to other financial aid staff to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
  13. Contributes to the development of financial aid informational materials for students and the university community.
  14. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Periodic:
  1. Generates reports for leadership as required.
  2. Attends relevant meetings and conferences as necessary.
  3. Engages in committees and task forces across the institution as needed.
  4. Serves as a mentor when necessary.
Qualifications

Financial Aid & Scholarship Officer I
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • One (1) year of experience in finance, customer service, or working with students OR two (2) years of experience as a student employee in relevant areas.
  • Master's degree can substitute for required experience.
  • Group and individual presentation and meeting facilitation skills required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, multi-tasking abilities, and flexibility in a dynamic environment.
Financial Aid & Scholarship Officer II
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of experience in financial aid, scholarships, or related fields.
  • Master's degree can substitute for one (1) year of experience.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, multi-tasking abilities, and flexibility in a dynamic environment.
  • Group and individual presentation and meeting facilitation skills required.
Preferred Qualifications

Financial Aid & Scholarship Officer I
  • Master's degree from an accredited university.
  • One (1) year of higher education experience including financial aid and/or scholarship.
Financial Aid & Scholarship Officer II
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two (2) years of financial aid and/or scholarship experience.
Additional Information
  • This is a security-sensitive position. Employment is contingent upon a successful background check.
  • Applicants selected must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States by time of hire.
  • Valid driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as applicable.
Working Conditions
  • Office environment.
  • Ability to travel to and from meetings, training sessions, or other business-related events.
  • Occasional after-hours and weekend work or overtime may be required.
Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required, only occasionally.
  • Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
This position will be primarily located on campus. Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility.
