Position Summary:

The Director of Finance and Accounting plays a pivotal role in overseeing the financial health of the organization. This position is responsible for managing financial operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing strategic financial guidance.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance is essential.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in financial management and accounting, ideally within a non-profit environment.
  • Demonstrated success in managing finance functions, including accounting, budgeting, and reporting for a non-profit organization with diverse funding sources.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Excel and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is mandatory.
  • Familiarity with Non-Profit accounting software, particularly Blackbaud Financial Edge, is advantageous.
  • Comprehensive understanding of GAAP, fund accounting, and financial regulations relevant to non-profit entities.
  • Experience in grant accounting and familiarity with reporting requirements for various grants.
  • Proficient in handling general ledger, financial statements, and account reconciliations.
  • Ability to develop and enforce financial policies, systems, and procedures effectively.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are necessary for engaging with diverse stakeholders.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail are crucial.
  • Experience in coordinating audits and ensuring compliance.
  • Strategic planning and long-term financial forecasting abilities are required.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with care.
  • Capability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including collaboration with peers and mentoring subordinates.
  • Ability to work effectively with various levels of management and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in overseeing the financial operations and strategic planning of the organization.
  • Collaborate with department heads to develop and manage annual budgets that align with organizational objectives.
  • Establish and maintain effective financial systems to manage accounts, including receivables, payables, and payroll.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable laws, implementing robust internal controls.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and assist in preparing financial statements.
  • Enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the finance department through updated practices and policies.
  • Review financial transactions for accuracy and compliance with budgetary constraints.
  • Analyze monthly financial performance against budget and investigate discrepancies.
  • Oversee reconciliations of all general ledger accounts and ensure timely processing of transactions.
  • Manage vendor reporting and oversee credit card transactions.
  • Prepare necessary reports for corporate and foundational grants.
  • Maintain fixed asset records accurately.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role includes supervisory responsibilities for all personnel within the Finance and Accounting department, adhering to organizational policies and legal requirements.

Work Environment:

  • This position requires on-site work, fostering collaboration within a small team.
  • A standard workweek of 40 hours is expected, with potential for extended hours as needed.
  • Occasional travel may be required for organizational events.
  • Physical demands include the ability to operate office equipment and remain stationary for extended periods.
