Advanced Practice Provider in Interventional Cardiology

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health is in search of a skilled advanced practice provider, either a Physician Assistant or an Advanced Practice Nurse, to become a vital member of our established and collaborative Interventional Cardiology team. The selected candidate will engage in diagnostic cardiac evaluations and support interventional cardiac, peripheral vascular, and structural procedures, including device placements.

Key Responsibilities:

The provider will be responsible for:
  • Formulating and coordinating treatment strategies and educational initiatives for patients undergoing interventional cardiac, vascular, and structural interventions in both inpatient and outpatient environments.
  • Conducting patient consultations and managing follow-up care post-procedure, addressing inquiries related to patient management, and overseeing evaluations in the outpatient clinic.

Core Competencies (Management):

  • Assessing, ordering, and interpreting relevant diagnostic tests and screenings.
  • Creating and executing treatment plans based on clinical findings.
  • Conducting comprehensive or targeted patient histories and physical examinations.
  • Prescribing medications and therapies in accordance with specialty guidelines and regulatory standards.
  • Facilitating patient admissions and discharges, as well as making necessary referrals to other healthcare providers.

Core Competencies in Interventional Cardiology:

  • Possessing cardiology core privileges.
  • Assisting in and performing diagnostic cardiac catheterizations under supervision.
  • Supporting interventional cardiac procedures and managing catheter-based devices with appropriate oversight.
  • Establishing vascular access and managing complications related to vascular access under supervision.
  • Addressing cardiac tamponade, including performing pericardiocentesis with direct supervision.
  • Conducting point-of-care testing, including but not limited to ACT, ENOX, ABG, and aspirin sensitivity.
  • Assisting in complex coronary, peripheral vascular, and structural heart interventions.

This role will serve as a primary provider within the interventional cardiac unit, specifically in cardiac catheterization laboratories, under the direct guidance of an interventional cardiologist. The provider will also have scheduled responsibilities in the outpatient clinic, including availability for urgent or additional outpatient cases. Additional duties encompass routine pre-catheterization updates, daily consult notes, outpatient chart reviews prior to catheterization, entering necessary orders, and coordinating urgent catheterizations as required.

The position also entails a teaching component and participation in quality improvement initiatives and clinical research. Responsibilities will include STEMI/PCI scrub call and weekend/holiday outpatient discharges.

Qualifications
  • For Nurse Practitioners:
    Current RN and APRN licensure (or eligibility) in New Hampshire. Successful completion of an accredited NP program. Master’s level education is required.
  • For Physician Assistants:
    Current PA licensure (or eligibility) in New Hampshire. Successful completion of an accredited PA program. Master’s level education is required.
