Position Title: Educational Support Specialist

Supervision: Reports to the Principal or designated certified staff

Employment Status: Non-exempt

Objective:

  • To support certified educators in delivering instructional and auxiliary services aimed at enhancing student success.
  • To collaborate with certified personnel in designing and executing educational experiences for learners.
  • To aid certified educators in fostering a secure and nurturing educational atmosphere.
  • To assist in providing targeted small group instruction.
  • To support certified educators in the preparation and organization of educational resources.
Qualifications:
  1. Associate's degree or completion of 48 semester hours from an accredited institution, or a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment.
  2. Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment under relevant child protection legislation.
  3. Possession of a valid driver's license.
  4. Demonstrated success in relevant professional experience.
  5. Capacity and willingness to thrive in a demanding educational environment.
  6. Exemplary oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and staff.
  7. Strong interpersonal skills, emphasizing collaboration and communication with diverse groups.
  8. Ability to identify and address challenges as a constructive team member.
  9. Capacity to follow verbal and written instructions accurately.
  10. Physical capability to perform job responsibilities, including lifting and assisting students.
  11. Proficiency in utilizing technology for communication, data management, and report generation.
  12. Willingness to accept constructive feedback and follow directions.
  13. Ability to assist students with personal hygiene and mobility needs.
  14. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  15. Dependability and regular attendance.
  16. Other qualifications as determined by the Superintendent.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Exhibit support for the educational system's vision, goals, and priorities.
  2. Deliver lessons or segments of lessons to individuals or groups, verify work accuracy, and assign additional tasks as directed by the teacher.
  3. Assist students in utilizing educational materials, technology, and classroom resources.
  4. Support certified educators in maintaining accurate records related to attendance, academic performance, and behavior.
  5. Help maintain student discipline and promote acceptable behavior.
  6. Manage student behavior, including crisis intervention when necessary, following established guidelines.
  7. Assist teachers during field trips by addressing students' physical needs and reinforcing learning opportunities.
  8. Support bus drivers in maintaining discipline and addressing students' physical requirements.
  9. Supervise students in the absence of certified staff.
  10. Implement behavior management strategies as directed by certified educators.
  11. Adapt instructional materials and methods as needed.
  12. Maintain confidentiality regarding school-related matters.
  13. Perform duties with professionalism and courtesy.
  14. Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential issues and opportunities for improvement.
  15. Collaborate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to ensure the educational system's goals are met.
  16. Engage in professional development and uphold ethical standards.
  17. Report unusual occurrences or concerns to appropriate personnel.
  18. Respond to inquiries and feedback in a timely and constructive manner.
  19. Maintain and submit accurate reports and records promptly.
  20. Utilize and care for school resources responsibly and supervise others in their use.
  21. Work collaboratively as a team member.
  22. Transfer with students to different educational settings as required.
  23. Adhere to school policies, procedures, and regulations.
  24. Report absences and take leave according to established policies.
  25. Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the principal or supervising educator.
Employment Terms: This is a nine-month position aligned with the Board's salary schedule.

Evaluation: Job performance will be assessed in accordance with the State Department of Education and/or relevant Board policies.
