Job Overview

In the Army National Guard, effective communication is essential for operational success, and the role of the Signal Support Systems Specialist is pivotal in maintaining this flow of information.

Key Responsibilities

Signal Support Systems Specialists are tasked with the integration of communication systems and networks, executing signal support operations, and performing unit-level maintenance on authorized communication equipment. Their duties include the installation, operation, and upkeep of radio and data distribution systems.

Advanced team members take on supervisory roles, training fellow Soldiers, maintaining and installing signal support systems and terminal devices, and providing technical assistance and training for automation and communication equipment. They are also responsible for preparing maintenance and supply requests for unit-level signal support and conducting preventative maintenance checks on assigned vehicles.

Job Duties Include:
  • Maintaining radio and data distribution systems
  • Performing signal support functions and offering technical assistance for computer systems
  • Providing training and technical support for local area networks
  • Conducting maintenance on equipment, terminal devices, assigned vehicles, and power generators

Skills Development

Through this role, you will acquire valuable skills in:
  • Mechanical and electrical principles
  • Preventive maintenance procedures
  • Line installation and wiring techniques
  • Communication security policies and procedures

Desirable Attributes

Training and Benefits

The Army National Guard offers a structured training program that includes 10 weeks of Basic Training followed by 18 weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), combining hands-on experience with classroom instruction.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:
