About Us

KFTC is a grassroots organization with a diverse membership and numerous chapters throughout Kentucky, advocating for racial, social, healing, and economic justice, alongside a sustainable environment and a transparent democracy. We believe in the transformative power of community engagement—collective efforts aimed at achieving shared objectives. Our members and staff employ various strategies to cultivate grassroots strength and enact change, including leadership development, strategic communication, artistic expression, integrated voter engagement, grassroots fundraising, and coalition building. We are open to innovative and effective approaches grounded in love, care, and collective growth.

Vision and Goals

Vision Statement: Kentuckians For The Commonwealth aspires to be a guiding light, fostering a vibrant, joyful, intergenerational, and multicultural society where all individuals are liberated from oppression, and equity, healthcare, and justice are accessible to everyone. We envision a beloved community where all individuals are connected and validated through healthy relationships, dedicated to mutual liberation.

Ambitious Objective: With guidance from Black, Indigenous, People of Color, and affected communities, we aim to recruit, equip, and mobilize a network of 100,000 members and allies across all counties to dismantle systemic racism and oppression, cultivate a robust democracy, and reshape Kentucky's future.

Key Responsibilities

KFTC is looking for seasoned organizers who are motivated, self-aware, creative, and committed to lifelong learning and the transformation of Kentucky while striving for mutual liberation for all. Under the guidance of a Lead Organizer or Organizing Director, you will:

  • Engage in impactful, anti-racist, anti-colonial local organizing efforts, particularly in and around Central Kentucky.
  • Focus on campaigns and initiatives related to Racial & Social Justice, Climate Action, Education, Voting Rights & Democracy, and Economic Justice.
  • Utilize your skills and experience in leading organizing movements, grassroots fundraising, and community outreach.
  • Support and enhance other organizing efforts that strengthen KFTC's mission and advance our Vision and Goals.

Your Contributions:

  • Build and nurture relationships with a diverse base of skilled, active, and politically conscious grassroots leaders.
  • Recruit new members to KFTC.
  • Develop your chapter by fostering relationships through one-on-one conversations and gatherings with engaged groups of leaders and change-makers.
  • Align your actions with KFTC's Vision and Goals.
  • Contribute to effective local and statewide campaigns.
  • Organize and promote attendance at events such as neighborhood meetings, public forums, and other relevant gatherings.
  • Implement voter engagement strategies to facilitate systemic healing, education, and grassroots empowerment.
  • Collaborate with local and issue-based allies to strengthen relationships and support collective efforts.
  • Assist in strategic communications regarding KFTC's values, visions, and activities.
  • Engage in consistent grassroots fundraising efforts.
  • Positively contribute to the KFTC organizing and staff teams.
  • Fulfill administrative responsibilities efficiently.
  • Foster a positive, diverse, and high-performing team culture.
  • Participate in staff meetings and required gatherings.
  • Respond promptly to communications during work hours.
  • Submit timesheets and other required documentation in a timely manner.
  • Develop work plans to guide your activities.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Candidate Profile

We seek individuals who resonate with the following attributes:

  • Demonstrate a visionary spirit through creativity and innovative thinking.
  • Seek to understand the experiences of historically marginalized groups, particularly Black and Indigenous communities.
  • Embrace anti-racist and anti-colonial values in both personal and professional spheres.
  • Possess direct experience in justice movements led by Black and Indigenous communities.
  • Commit to lifelong learning and be open to constructive feedback.
  • Recognize the importance of authentic solidarity among diverse communities.
  • Prioritize self-care as integral to collective well-being.
  • Exhibit a conscious awareness of oneself and the communities engaged.

Ideally, candidates will have three or more years of relevant experience (including volunteer work) and the ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Strong interpersonal communication, facilitation, and listening skills are essential. Candidates should be organized, strategic, adaptable, collaborative, courageous, and compassionate. We value the integration of healing and joy in our work.

Successful candidates will work independently while also collaborating effectively with teams of volunteers and colleagues. Familiarity with technology, including Google platforms and communication tools, is essential.

Additional Desired Qualities:

  • Experience in media relations and spokesperson development.

Core Principles:

  1. Commitment to creativity and skills that drive us toward liberation.
