Role Overview: The Community-Based Recovery Support Specialist plays a vital role in collaborating with the Clinical Program Manager to enhance the experience of consumers and their families. This position focuses on daily engagement with consumers, facilitating their involvement in committees and initiatives, and nurturing strong relationships with family-run services and programs. Utilizing personal Recovery Lived Experience, the specialist aids families and consumers in establishing their recovery objectives and acquiring essential skills for their journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leverage personal recovery experiences to guide families and consumers in defining their recovery aspirations and developing the necessary competencies.
  • Engage with consumers facing co-occurring disorders, including mental health and substance use challenges.
  • Assist in creating and implementing a comprehensive training and education program for peers, families, providers, and staff.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with consumer and family organizations to encourage active participation in UnitedHealth Group initiatives.
  • Communicate essential plan information and other relevant topics to consumers and family organizations.
  • Identify and reach out to community leaders to develop culturally competent recovery programs.
  • Participate in internal committees and quality review processes as directed.
  • Support consumers and families in navigating the mental healthcare delivery system and understanding their rights.
  • Facilitate appointments and provide direct support to consumers transitioning from 24-hour care.
  • Collaborate with care managers and community organizations to ensure seamless access to services.
  • Advocate for consumers and families, providing peer support during critical phases of their treatment.
  • Encourage consumer and family involvement in all operational aspects of UnitedHealth Group.

Qualifications:

  • Active Peer Recovery Specialist or Peer Support Specialist certification in Kentucky or the ability to obtain it within 12 months.
  • 4+ years of experience in case management.
  • 1+ years of experience with community resources and the Medicaid population.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Access to a reliable workspace and high-speed internet connection.
