Job Overview

The Community Hazard Mitigation Division of ISO has implemented the National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS), a voluntary initiative aimed at evaluating a community's capacity to minimize flood damage. ISO actively collaborates with the CRS to promote community floodplain management practices that surpass the basic NFIP standards. The primary objectives of this program include:

  • Minimizing flood-related losses
  • Facilitating precise insurance assessments
  • Enhancing public awareness regarding flood insurance

CRS initiatives are categorized into four main areas:

  • Public Information: Educating communities about flood risks and damage reduction strategies.
  • Mapping and Regulations: Strengthening protections for new developments through various programs.
  • Flood Damage Reduction: Lowering flood risks for existing structures.
  • Flood Preparedness: Establishing flood warning systems and dam safety protocols.

As the CRS program continues to expand, we are seeking a Flood Mitigation Analyst (CRS Specialist) to serve the Ohio region. This role is integral to recognizing and promoting community floodplain management efforts that exceed the NFIP's minimum requirements.

If you possess a self-driven attitude, attention to detail, and enjoy engaging with communities, this position may be an excellent fit for you. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting field visits to gather flood-related data
  • Preparing comprehensive reports in line with established guidelines
  • Representing ISO in meetings with community leaders

Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and floodplain management through community planning.
  • A degree in business, engineering, or a related field is preferred, along with relevant experience in floodplain mitigation.
  • Strong customer service skills, along with proficiency in mathematics and effective verbal/written communication.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
  • Certification as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is advantageous.

This role requires a valid driver's license and involves some overnight travel, with the flexibility to work from a home office.
