Bozeman, Montana, United States Underwriting Solutions Full time
Job Overview

The Community Hazard Mitigation Division has initiated the National Flood Insurance Program's (NFIP) Community Rating System (CRS), a voluntary program designed to evaluate a community's effectiveness in minimizing flood damage. The primary focus of the CRS is to encourage enhanced floodplain management practices that surpass the minimum standards set by the NFIP. The main objectives include:

  • Minimizing flood-related losses
  • Ensuring accurate insurance ratings
  • Raising awareness about flood insurance

CRS activities are categorized into four key areas:

  • Public Information: Educating communities about flood risks and damage reduction strategies.
  • Mapping and Regulations: Strengthening protections for new developments through various initiatives.
  • Flood Damage Reduction: Lowering flood risks for existing structures.
  • Flood Preparedness: Establishing flood warning systems and dam safety protocols.

As the CRS program continues to expand, we are seeking a Flood Mitigation Analyst (CRS Specialist) to serve the Ohio region. This role is integral to recognizing and promoting community floodplain management efforts that exceed NFIP's basic requirements.

If you possess a self-driven attitude, attention to detail, and enjoy engaging with communities, this position may be an excellent fit for you. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting field visits to gather flood-related data.
  • Preparing comprehensive reports in line with established standards.
  • Representing the organization in meetings with community stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • Experience with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and floodplain management.
  • A degree in business, engineering, or a related field is preferred, along with relevant experience in floodplain mitigation.
  • Strong customer service skills, proficiency in mathematics, and excellent verbal and written communication abilities are essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows is required.
  • Must demonstrate self-motivation, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.
  • Certification as a Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) is a plus.

This role necessitates a valid driver's license and may involve some overnight travel, with the flexibility to work from a home office.
