Position Overview:

Merrick & Company is in search of a Mechanical Engineer III to become a vital part of our Energy, Manufacturing & Bioprocessing Business Unit. This is a full-time, direct hire role focused on engineering, design, coordination, client interaction, and related construction administration.

Compensation: The typical annual salary range for this role is between $105,000 and $125,000, with variations based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Location: This position will be based in our Tulsa, OK office, with the possibility of a hybrid work schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

The selected Engineer will thrive in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment, overseeing engineering deliverables, calculations, systems and equipment selection, mechanical design, and managing budgets and schedules. The role includes maintaining professional relationships with vendors, clients, and other Merrick personnel as required by projects. Key responsibilities include:

  • Application of Expertise:
    • Ensure understanding and adherence to owner requirements and corporate standards related to mechanical design.
    • Review applicable codes and standards such as IBC, ASME, API, PIP, and NFPA.
    • Establish and document the mechanical systems basis of design, providing clarifications and design assumptions.
    • Collaborate with facility owners to ensure cost-effective systems and equipment are utilized.
    • Work with construction management to validate costs and provide value-engineering options.
  • Design Responsibilities:
    • Conduct and document engineering calculations for selecting compliant systems and equipment.
    • Perform equipment sizing and selection.
    • Provide input to the piping group regarding mechanical equipment.
    • Schedule reviews of mechanical equipment data sheets and specifications.
    • Ensure project specifications are comprehensive and accurate.
    • Conduct pipe stress analysis using software like CAESAR II.
    • Collaborate with the project team to design an optimized piping system.
    • Perform pressure vessel calculations using PV Elite.
    • Review piping isometrics, plans, specifications, P&IDs, and other design documents thoroughly.
  • Construction Support:
    • Address field oversights and provide problem-solving solutions.
    • Review vendor drawings and submittals.
    • Conduct field inspections and review reports.
    • Manage project RFIs effectively.
  • Profitability Management:
    • Complete projects within budget and prepare Change Orders for expanded scopes.
  • Planning and Scheduling:
    • Guide the inclusion of necessary elements in bid packages.
    • Collaborate with Project Engineers/Managers to ensure adherence to project schedules.
  • Professional Development:
    • Maintain required licensing CEUs.
    • Seek in-house and external training opportunities to enhance skills.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
  • Proven experience in a collaborative work environment.
  • 8+ years of industry experience.
  • Registered Professional Engineer or the ability to obtain PE within the first year of employment.
  • Experience with Design/Build and EPC projects.
  • Experience leading engineering teams on design projects.
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with pipe stress analysis using CAESAR II.
  • Significant knowledge of bioprocessing facility equipment and systems.
  • Experience with PV Elite for pressure vessel analysis.
  • Familiarity with ASME B31.3 and B31.1 standards.
