SUMMARY:
As a Mechanical Engineer II, you will be responsible for the design, development, and testing of mechanical subsystems for training devices and similar applications, ensuring they meet specified operational, performance, and interface criteria. Your role will encompass mechanical engineering development, integration, verification, and documentation tasks, all while adhering to budgetary and scheduling constraints.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate operational and performance requirements of the overall system, proposing detailed mechanical system design approaches that align with project specifications, including considerations for electro-mechanical needs, cooling systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, spatial constraints, safety, and spare parts.
- Collaborate with project and systems engineers to review program specifications and applicable standards, identifying and assessing interface requirements between mechanical hardware and other system components.
- Establish interface requirements for mechanical subsystems that are consistent with system interfaces and overarching designs.
- Conduct value engineering trade studies of potential design solutions to identify the optimal choice considering fidelity, quality, timeline, and cost.
- Create detailed mechanical designs through analysis, elaboration, and breakdown of top-level interface, operational, and performance requirements.
- Identify and manage technical risks to mitigate unforeseen issues and reduce costs.
- Oversee subsystem testing, integration testing, and acceptance testing of design outputs.
- Diagnose equipment issues to determine and implement solutions.
- Engage in the installation, acceptance, and delivery of training devices to various locations worldwide.
- Coordinate with management, procurement, fabrication, assembly, and systems testing teams to ensure product compliance with functional specifications and customer expectations.
- Deliverables will include proposals, reports, specifications, design documents, manufacturing specifications, and testing protocols as required for the project.
- Utilize computer-aided engineering and design software as necessary to perform tasks.
- Execute other related duties as assigned by your supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To excel in this position, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
- EDUCATION: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in mechanical engineering, physics, or a related field; or 3 years of relevant practical experience, preferably in simulation; or a combination of education and experience.
- EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 18 months in the simulation industry. Knowledge and expertise at this level typically arise from progressive internal experience.
- TECHNICAL SKILLS: Proficiency in reading, analyzing, and interpreting technical literature. Strong communication skills for effective correspondence with coworkers, subcontractors, customers, and regulatory agencies.
- MATHEMATICAL ABILITY: Capability to apply basic trigonometry and calculus, along with principles of modern algebra, ratios, and percentages.
- COMPUTER PROFICIENCY: Skilled in Microsoft Office applications and standard personal computer software tools, including word processors, spreadsheets, and project tracking software.
- REASONING SKILLS: Ability to define problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- CITIZENSHIP: U.S. Citizenship is required. Must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government SECRET Level Security Clearance.
