Role Summary:

Umialik Insurance Company, part of the Western National Insurance Group, is currently seeking a seasoned Commercial Lines Underwriter III. This role presents an opportunity to establish and maintain a portfolio of commercial lines accounts through designated agencies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and nurture robust relationships with agencies.
  • Manage an assigned agency territory effectively to meet growth and profitability targets.
  • Utilize established methodologies and underwriting authority to evaluate various risk operations and exposures.
  • Identify and assess risks on both new and existing accounts to optimize the loss ratio and growth objectives for the territory.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of underwriting practices to write, renew, or amend business as necessary.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in managing high-risk and high-hazard accounts.
  • Provide mentorship to colleagues to enhance their skills and effectiveness.
  • Exhibit a thorough understanding of coverage options, forms, symbols, and endorsements relevant to each line of business.
  • Focus primarily on acquiring new business in alignment with regional goals.
  • Utilize advanced rating knowledge, including experience, composite, and scheduled ratings.
  • Make informed decisions guided by overarching policies and objectives, even in complex scenarios.
  • Communicate effectively the interrelationships among various problem components.
  • Adhere to customer experience standards by responding promptly, maintaining a positive demeanor, building rapport, demonstrating empathy, managing expectations, and ensuring resolution of customer issues.
  • Travel up to 25% for agency or company engagements.
  • Undertake special projects and additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Proven time management abilities with a track record of meeting deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation and relationship management skills.
  • Analytical mindset with sound business judgment.
  • Intermediate organizational skills with the capacity to handle multiple priorities.
  • Solid understanding of industry standards and underwriting principles.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in insurance, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficient in the use of core systems, office equipment, and software applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of five years in an underwriting capacity is preferred.
  • Certifications such as CPCU, AU, or CIC are advantageous.

Compensation Overview:

The compensation range for this position is $83,814 - $125,721 annually. The actual base pay offered may vary based on the candidate's relevant knowledge, skills, credentials, and experience, as well as other factors such as the scope of the role.
