About the Role:

This is a permanent, full-time position for a Senior Fisheries Scientist who will collaborate with a team to support the agency's representation on the North Pacific Fishery Management Council. The primary focus will be to provide comprehensive analysis and expert guidance regarding the potential impacts of proposed actions by the Council.

The incumbent will act as a subject matter expert on the implementation and modifications of state and federal fishery management plans concerning various fisheries, including groundfish, crab species, scallops, halibut, and salmon.

This position is crucial in delivering technical insights and recommendations to agency representatives on the Council, ensuring that the state maximizes the benefits derived from its commercial fisheries.

Candidate Profile:

We seek a detail-oriented and dedicated professional with the following qualifications:

  • Experience in fishery management processes, such as Regional Fishery Management Councils.

  • Proficient in preparing briefing documents, motions, and summary reports.
  • Critical thinking abilities to analyze and synthesize information effectively.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with diverse teams.

Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor's degree in biology, fisheries science, or a related field, along with one year of relevant professional experience as a biologist or fish culturist.

Additional Requirements:
A valid driver's license is necessary for this position.
