Position Summary

The Product Category Specialist plays a crucial role in analyzing category trends and delivering data-driven insights that align with the strategic objectives of Good 2 Go Stores. This position involves executing programs and providing analytical support to enhance business performance.

Key Responsibilities

Pricing & Marketing
  • Establishes competitive pricing strategies and modifies prices to boost sales and manage inventory effectively.
  • Conducts thorough analysis of sales data and profit margins for each category and individual products.
  • Stays updated on market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive positioning.
  • Collaborates with suppliers to expand successful product lines and develop exit strategies for underperforming items.
  • Promotes products or product lines by balancing pricing and availability with consumer demand.
  • Engages in competitive store visits and vendor discussions to stay informed about new products and market developments.
  • Acts as a knowledgeable resource in ensuring the right products are available at optimal pricing.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of promotional activities within assigned categories.
  • Conducts market surveys to inform retail adjustments based on findings.
Vendor Management
  • Oversees vendor relationships, including vendor selection, price negotiations, delivery, and payment terms.
  • Works closely with vendors on product introductions, discontinuations, and promotional efforts.
  • Partners with distributors to optimize costs and enhance margins within assigned categories.
  • Builds and maintains positive vendor relationships to ensure alignment with company marketing and pricing strategies.
  • Coordinates promotional initiatives and advertising efforts with vendors, ensuring effective communication and implementation at the store level.
  • Negotiates advantageous programs with suppliers and vendors.
Inventory Planning and Management
  • Effectively manages inventory to maximize profitability and streamline inventory flow.
  • Evaluates and procures products and services that meet quality and quantity standards.
  • Balances sales forecasts with actual sales performance.
  • Develops trend forecasts and implements sales strategies.
  • Enhances inventory turnover rates within the category.
  • Conducts financial analyses to inform inventory planning.
  • Collaborates with various departments to ensure successful execution of marketing initiatives.
Work Environment
  • Primarily office-based with occasional exposure to retail environments.
  • May involve work around fuel and fuel pumps, as well as in parking lots and outdoor areas.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand for moderate durations.
  • Capable of moving freely within the work environment.
  • Ability to lift items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to perform various physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, bending, and stooping.
  • Frequent use of office and store equipment, including phones and computers.
Travel Requirements
  • Approximately 30% travel may be required.
Qualifications

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in category management, preferably in a convenience store setting.
  • Comprehensive understanding of retail insights.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong presentation and persuasion skills.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders at all organizational levels.
Preferred
  • Eight or more years of experience in a related field.
  • Experience in the convenience store or retail sectors.
  • Familiarity with Point of Sale, accounting, and back-office systems.
