Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to join our research team as a Biological Scientist III. This position entails providing both administrative and scientific assistance to the Principal Investigator (PI) and laboratory staff. Our research is centered on investigating the influence of neuronal circuits and metabolic processes on complex behaviors in rodents throughout their lifespan.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Research Coordination and Laboratory Management: Responsibilities include overseeing IACUC inspection preparations, ensuring compliance with surgical protocols, maintaining surgical and electrophysiology equipment, monitoring surgical logs, and addressing any concerns with PIs. Additionally, you will ensure compliance with EH&S, IACUC, and DEA regulations, manage laboratory supplies, and maintain the laboratory website.
  • Experimental Execution: Duties involve designing and implementing molecular protocols, monitoring rodent feeding schedules, performing drug injections, conducting behavioral training and testing, collecting electrophysiological data, and analyzing gene expression.
  • Animal Care: Responsibilities include managing transgenic animal colonies and facilitating transfers among research teams.
  • Surgical Assistance: You will assist with rodent survival surgeries, including electrode implantations and cannulations, while also providing postoperative care and maintaining surgical records.
  • Tissue Collection and Histological Analysis: Duties include performing euthanasia for tissue harvest, sectioning tissues, and conducting histological staining and immunohistochemistry.
  • Mentorship and Training: You will take on a leadership role in training new trainees and undergraduate research assistants, guiding them through IACUC and EHS requirements, and supervising their research activities.


Expected Salary:

$68,000 - $71,000

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field with seven years of experience, or a Master's degree with five years of experience, or a Doctoral degree with two years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong competency in research compliance, experience with transgenic colony maintenance, and familiarity with basic molecular biology techniques.
