Job Summary

The Department of Surgery, Division of Vascular Surgery, is seeking a highly skilled Biological Scientist III to join our team. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for collecting, organizing, and analyzing experimental data as part of approved clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate scientific services for patient-related studies and clinical trials.
  • Create sample collection kits, process samples, and provide QA/QC assistance.
  • Collect and process stool, tissue, blood, and other samples.
  • Perform complex cell culture and cell isolation techniques, including working with primary mouse and human cell and tissue culture lines.
  • Perform small animal (mouse) survival surgery, including post-operative management.
  • Responsible for the humane euthanasia of animals, tissue harvesting, and blood collection.
  • Design and perform scientific experiments for analysis and standardization.
  • Learn and adopt unknown/new techniques/assays to meet project needs.
  • Present results of collected and analyzed data for discussion.
  • Maintain compliance with Environmental Health and Safety offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and seven years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in biology or a closely related field and five years of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field and two years of relevant experience.
  • Degree in biology or biomedical sciences is preferred; advanced degree (Ph.D.) is preferred.
  • Advanced degree with minimum 3 years experience in laboratory research experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in qRT-PCR, cell culture, and western blotting assays is required.
  • Experience in flow cytometry and/or animal handling is a plus.
